RaceDayCT Daily Poll: How Many Whelen Modified Tour Events Do You Expect For 2021?

A year ago this week the 2020 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour schedule was released.

The 17-event slate ended up being decimated thanks to restrictions put in place due to the COVID-19 global pandemic. The season ended up being a total of nine events. NASCAR ended up running five of the original 17 events on the schedule, with four events added to the schedule after restrictions went into place.

There are plenty of questions about how the 2021 schedule will play out. Two events on the 2021 schedule have been officially announced by NASCAR, at Martinsville Speedway and Richmond Raceway. Riverhead Raceway management has confirmed they will schedule two events.

At least three tracks that were on the 2020 schedule – Thompson Speedway, South Boston Speedway and Iowa Speedway – are not expected be on the 2021 schedule. Beyond that there are plenty of mysteries. NASCAR has not revealed any timetable for the release of a schedule.

So how many events do you think will be on the 2021 Whelen Modified Tour schedule? Vote below.

  1. I think there will be 10 or less events in 2021. The virus is raging, setting records daily. Even though Joe Biden has an aggressive plan to try and deal with this, he won’t be able to start until January 20th. I don’t see Trump taking any action. So I think 2021 is going to look allot like 2020, maybe even worse.

  2. Seriously RaceDayCt nation? They clicked off 9 with a late start. Oh ye of little faith.

  3. So TT has a May 1st show. Are you saying folks shouldn’t buy tickets ahead of time? Or is the virus just a Nascar thing?

Good grief the tour blah blah blah blah blah I said it once I’ll say it again stick a fork in them they’re done open modified shows are going to be a thing of the future The Tour is going to be a thing of the past like it has been for the last; well let’s say 15 years🙄

i willl stick to my 17-19 number
keep in mind florence speedway in South Carolina
Steve Zacharias of the New york fame is general manager and he was the guy who brought WMT to Myrtle Beach Speedway

  6. Not many.

And definitely do NOT buy tickets ahead of time.

  7. I said 10 to 12. any less would be disappointing. I tried to come up with probably races in another thread and had a really tough time getting to double digits. This regional tour is going to have to log a lot of miles if they want to have a full schedule next year. It looks like Covid restrictions / limitations will still be in effect in the northeast for at least the early part of the season. Honestly I was surprised they were able to get what they got last year. Unfortunately scheduling some of those races at non nascar tracks for lower purses probably cost them a few races next season at historic Nascar tracks which have been the cornerstone of the modified schedule for ever.

I will throw out New Smyrna speedway during speedweeks. My guess is they are scrambling for races. Nascar has had the KN series there in the past. FL has been pretty open as far as covid restrictions go. They had the Tour non points show at Daytona which drew pretty good. Nascar needs races in areas that dont have restrictions. Any idea when the schedule comes out?

  8. I gotta ask. What’s with the scorched earth policy for some regarding the NWMT. I get the part where it’s not a favorite for some. The part that’s confusing is rooting for them to fail. If a bunch or really talented drivers with very talented teams backed by owners and businesses with deep pockets favor the series why would anyone be cheering their demise? Massa, Coby, Stuart, Boehler, Goodale, Baldwin, Harvey, Watts, Sapienza etc all favor the NWMT for whatever reason. Rob Fuller’s modified empire is primarily focused on the NWMT. I’m guessing the assumption is they would role over to an alternative in the event the tour fails which could be a false assumption. Some may very well only be interested in the prestige the NASCAR sanctioned series offers not to mention the fact there is no series at this point in time to roll into.
Why the grudge? It’s supporting a class of cars by subtraction and the math is horrible.

  9. The answer is obvious… however many the #TrumpPandemic COVID-19 coronavirus 🦠 will allow.

    🦠🦠🦠🦠🦠🦠🦠🦠🦠🦠🦠🦠

Restaurants around here have backed down to take-out only, no dining, even outside dining. I don’t know how people do take-out, what goes on in the kitchen is just as scary.

Can’t stop scamming. Trump CAN NOT concede. He has a donation website/effort to raise funds to contest the election results. If he concedes, the revenue stream dries up. Furthermore, the fine print of the fundraiser states that 50% of the donations go towards PAYING OFF PREVIOUSLY ACCRUED CAMPAIGN DEBTS.

  10. CSG has a good point, opener at Speedweeks would make sense except remember every time you turned around in the last 15 years Daytona was doing everything they could to destroy New Smyrna, add night races, night qualifying, their own race against NS at night, everything wrong. But maybe things have changed, who knows.

  11. Not too worried. Plenty of huge crowds gathering last night with masks. No reason why this can’t translate to sports and racing crowds again in 2021.

No WMT race at Thompson is a abomination. I agree with Dafella. I ordered a pizza today. I was walking out of the place, pizza in hand and for some reason I had a flashback of some of the things I’ve read here from Dafella. My heart skipped a beat and I immediately threw the pizza into the nearest garbage recepticle. Didn’t even bother going back to get a refund. Matter of fact I don’t even feel safe using toilet paper anymore. God knows where that’s made or where it has been. I’ll be going with reusable wash cloths. I believe it’s a much safer way to go.

Just keep in mind that April is only five months away, the #TrumpPandemic is spooling up, there is no end in sight for the #TrumpPandemic, vaccine due dates promised by Trump have come and gone, there is no credible vaccine in the future,

It’s well documented. Trump’s plan for dealing with Covid is herd immunity. This plan will not only needlessly kill between 7 to 12 million more americans, but will also insure that Covid is a major player in everyone’s lives well beyond 2021
With no end in sight, and a viable vaccine still months away, I’d guess that 2021 is going to look allot like 2020. Don’t forget, once a viable vaccine is found, it’s going to take about 18 months to 2 years to vaccinate everyone, and there is no guarantee that once vaccinated the effects will be long lasting

A vaccine is also wishful thinking because this pathogen is mutating so quickly.

WHILE NOTHING IS GUARANTEED FOR THE 2021 RACING SEASON WITH REGARD TO A VACCINE ONE THING IS CLEAR. AT THIS POINT IN TIME STATEMENTS THAT THEY ARE NOT POSSIBLE OR THAT THE ADMINISTRATION IS DEPENDING ON HERD IMMUNITY AND HAS DONE NOTHING OR THAT NOTHING IS BEING DONE TO DELIVER THE VACCINE OR THAT IT WON’T BE EFFECTIVE IN 2021 ARE COMPLETELY INACCURATE

  14. 🌈🦄2020 says

Oh look, a vaccine over 90% effective. Just had to wait for the election results.

  15. 🌈🦄2020,
Just for facts sake. There is no vaccine ready. The story is that Pfizer’s early data shows their vaccine to be about 90 percent effective at preventing COVID. The announcement from Pfizer gave no indication of when a vaccine could be ready for distribution and gave zero indication it could be ready anytime soon.

  16. And just for completeness, Pfizer did this independently, they did not participate in Operation Warp Speed. So any claims of achievements from Ivanka, Jared, et al. are just plain false.

  17. Stafford schedule on Wednesday. Anyone know an investigative reporter not named Doug who can break the details early???

I think some folks around here just don’t want a vaccine.

  18. Usually Nascar comes out first and all the other series tend to work around the Whelen schedule. With Stafford coming out Wednesday and Tri track announcing a few shows and still no word on the Nascar Whelen full schedule. Can we assume the local tracks and series no longer care to work around Nascar Whelen when it comes to scheduling their events? It didnt seem like Nascar tried to schedule around other already scheduled tour type mod events in 2020, in fact it seemed quite the contrary at times. Looking forward to seeing what Stafford comes up with Wednesday.

  19. Stafford schedule on Wednesday is just fine. Or Thur, or Fri.

Somebody is very impatient and anxious.

  20. Well that was interesting. Stafford mentions the schedule release on Facebook, a couple participants go on a political fueled flight of fancy and none other the Scott Tapley steps in to get the facts straight.
No teasers this year leading up to the release like last year for obvious reasons. Stafford responds to a couple posts but won’t respond to questions about season ticket pricing. Stafford schedule before the NWMT. Plus the Bottom Shot returns Thursday with Jackie Arute and it will be a goodin.
It’s enough to set your nethers atwingle in anticipation. This is gonna be a hum dinger of a release you betcha!
