Former Thomspon Speedway general manager Josh Vanada announced on Tuesday that he will be the promoter for three events on the Whelen Modified Tour in 2021.

Vanada will promote events at Jennerstown (Pa.) Speedway, (May 29), Oswego (N.Y.) Speedway (June 12) and Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in Scarborough, Me. (Aug. 21).

It had previously been reported that Vanada would be promoting the event at Beech Ridge.

“I’m glad to be back involved with motorsports and promoting the incredibly talented drivers, car owners and race teams of the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour,” Vanada said in a release. “We’ve selected three venues steeped in Modified history, with raceable surfaces and eager fans. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone at Jennerstown, Oswego and Beech Ridge this summer.”

Vanada served as general manager of Thompson Speedway from 2013 to 2018.

“Josh has a proven track record of producing high-quality, entertaining events for our race fans,” Whelen Modified Tour series director Jimmy Wilson said. “He has a passion for promoting events that bring an emphasis on both the racer and fan experience. We are looking forward to working together with him and his team to bring the excitement and adrenaline that is the hallmark of the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour. After a year of challenges with the current pandemic, we are proud of the diverse schedule and the opportunity to bring the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour to the variety of legacy and historic tracks on tap this year.”

Management at Wall Stadium Speedway in Wall, N.J. confirmed last month that Vanada had contacted them about leasing the facility for a Whelen Modified Tour event in 2021.

Comments

  1. How about Thompson??? Steeped in modified history………….

  2. “…with raceable surfaces…”

Has he seen a modified race at Oswego in the last decade?

  3. Promoting meaning paying purse and in control of the event? Or promoting as being paid by the Series/Tracks to generate more sales? Something is just off about this situation.

  4. Wonder what the comment about “race able surfaces” referred to.

  5. BIG DEAL

  6. 🌈🦄2020 says

Beech Ridge is steeped in modified history and Thompson isn’t on the schedule 😂

  7. Where are the Pasteryaks????? Can’t they come up with a deal to rehab the oval at Thompson?

  8. What’s the matter with the oval surface at Thompson? It seems the only one that has a problem with the oval racing surface is the owner of Thompson. Excuses, excuses…….

  9. Older paving gives a track character, it makes the drivers and crew chiefs earn their money, and in allot of cases leads to better racing.

  10. sour grapes wont support thompson says

rob p might agree however the surface is in terrible shape some say bordering on unsafe .. also its still a one groove race track at least where the mods are concerned ..divebombs away !!! . paving doesnt promise a two groove race track either …

  11. Fast Eddie says

Sour grapes, I’m not sure what Thompson races you’ve seen, but I’ve seen an awful lot of side-by-side modified racing there. Rob p, I definitely agree with you. Usually freshly paved tracks are one-groove for the first season of use. sometimes the pavement itself is what makes the facility unique.

  12. Thompson a one groove race track? Interesting, I agree with Fast Ed. I attended many races there over many years and there was certainly no evidence of that in my opinion. As I said many times before, the owner is the only one I have heard complaining about the surface. Just an excuse on their part to get out of the circle track business.

  13. It’s always fun to see who can navigate the lower groove at Thompson to gain an advantage. Like Preece nailed it running low and high in the NWMT race September 3 before running out of gas. That whole 4 tires is better then two is more creative interpretation by fans then a regular race reality. Passing mostly sling shot and dust ups, not side by side and trading sling shots more common then side by side in my view. Gotta be the sling shot cause hanging around the bottom is going backward for most. Except Preece in that one race.
