Virginia Governor Ralph Northam Announced Increased Limits for Sports & Entertainment Venues in the Commonwealth

A statement from Martinsville Speedway President Clay Campbell on Virginia Governor Ralph Northam’s announcement on increased limits for sports and entertainment venues in the Commonwealth.

“As we prepare for our upcoming spring NASCAR weekend on April 8-10, we are encouraged by today’s announcement on the increase in limited fan capacity for entertainment venues across the Commonwealth of Virginia. We are grateful for Governor Ralph Northam and his administration’s leadership as we follow the state’s pathway to welcome limited fans back to Martinsville Speedway.

We understand the importance of our role as venue operators, so we are working diligently to provide a safe race experience as we welcome back fans to our facility. We look forward to continuing to support our community as a mass vaccination site as we take another step forward in getting Henry County back to regular life in the future.”

The gov said 30% or 1000 people, whichever is less. Someone else said 30% with no capped number otherwise. A friend of a track manager said 8500 fans would be allowed. So it’s still a guess, I guess. But mod tix are on sale for $25. Anyone know how many laps they are running? I haven’t seen a number.

  2. Good news for the tracks and fans where there is only one way to view races and that’s attending. Much appreciation to NASCAR as the one sanctioning body that has taken the pandemic seriously and insisted safety protocols be taken seriously from the very start.
As the war rages on against Covid19 and the virus is in retreat it’s clear that while it will be beaten severely in 2021 it will still be an ongoing issue to deal with. Mutations will attempt to launch new offensives while the forces of good will take counter measures like Moderna is now with their vaccine modification to deal with the South African mutation.
In spite of all that racing will persevere in 2021. A year of great promise for modified fans with unprecedented access via streaming to different types of races from a number of different sanctioning groups and tracks.

    (13 ISLIP 300 RIVERHEAD)

Just updated to include the MRS race at Claremont. Might be a error or two but for the most part it should be fairly solid.
14 races for the NWMT, Stafford has 4 Opens, MRS so far at 4 events and Tri Track 6. Michaud and Mayberry have their 6 at Thompson plus the open at the NHMS. Add in the Riverhead Islip 300 and the count is a total of 36 so far. with 44 days to go to the Martinsville opener.
The theme for race teams last year was patience and flexibility. This year it is choices and money. Points critical to the NWMT teams, to a lesser extent Tri Track but to the vast majority of tour type teams it will be about picking and choosing.

  3. Nice job, Doug. It’s good to have it like a grocery list for the year.
I might add in some of the ACT shows, like down at legendary Hickory on April 2 and 3.

Crazy!!!! A race track wide open with plenty of room to social distance!! Wal-Mart has more people per square foot than a out door venue!
