STAFFORD – Jon McKennedy rode the wind to the top spot in practice Friday at Stafford Speedway for the Whelen Modified Tour NAPA Spring Sizzler 150.

McKennedy, of Chelmsford, Mass., toured the half-mile Stafford Speedway oval with a fast lap of 17.926 seconds.

The session was plagued by fierce winds with the caution flying at one point so officials could wrangle a stray garbage can that had blown onto the track.

Andrew Krause was second during the one-hour practice session for the series with a lap of 18.048 seconds.

Six-time series champion Doug Coby of Milford was third fastest at 18.087 seconds.

Craig Lutz (18.091 seconds) and Timmy Solomito (18.094 seconds) rounded out the top-five during the session respectively.

Matt Swanson, Woody Pitkat, Ronnie Williams, Ron Silk and Dave Sapeinza filled in the rest of the top-10 in practice respectively.

NASCAR Cup Series driver and former Whelen Modified Tour champion Ryan Preece was 12th fastest. Reigning series champion Justin Bonsignore, on a mission to capture his first series win at Stafford, was 15th fastest.

The NAPA Spring Sizzler 150 is scheduled for an 8:30 p.m. start.
