Matt Swanson Grabs First Career Whelen Mod Tour Pole In NAPA Spring Sizzler 150 At Stafford

STAFFORD – Stafford had the Vintage All-Star Modified Division racing an exhibition event at the track Friday night. 

In the main event for the night though, it was Matt Swanson putting one of the most iconic cars of Modified racing on the pole. 

Swanson, of Action, Mass., scored his first career pole in qualifying for the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Spring Sizzler 150 Friday at Stafford. 

Swanson, driving the classic Ole Blue No. 3 toured the half-mile Stafford oval with a fast lap of 18.008 seconds (99.956 mph). 

“I’m really excited to see what we got tonight,” Swanson said. “All the hard work from over the off season is starting to pay off and I hope it continues.” 

Jon McKennedy of Chelmsford, Mass. was second fastest in qualifying at 18.051 seconds (99.717 mph). 

Craig Lutz rounded out the top-three in qualifying with a fast lap of 18.099 seconds (99.453 mph). 

Six-time series champion Doug Coby (18.153 seconds) and Timmy Solomito (18.177 seconds) rounded out the top five in qualifying respectively.
