Sam Rameau wrapped a busy week of competition for the Rameau Family Motorsports team with a sixth-place finish on Saturday night, April 10, at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park.
Rameau scored the top-10 run by driving the No. 06 Central Mass Tree machine back to the front after pitting late in the race for fresh tires. He was running second, pressuring leader Ronnie Williams on a caution with just over 30 laps to go, and was optimistic about what would have happened if it stayed green from there to the end.
“If the caution didn’t come out, I think we had a good shot to win the race,” Rameau said. “I was faster than the No. 25 (Ronnie Williams) at that point, but was pushing him to push his stuff because I knew he had some older tires. I was planning to move within the next five or so laps. But that’s just racing. All in all it was a good day.”
Rameau’s trip to Thompson came off the heels of a disappointing effort in the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour opener at Martinsville Speedway on April 8. After high hopes, Rameau suffered a broken axle on his Modified and was sidelined with a 32nd place finish. The experience of visiting Martinsville and taking laps around one of NASCAR’s most historic tracks was still worth it for the Westminster, Massachusetts, native.
“It was the coolest thing to say that I raced with NASCAR Cup Series drivers Ryan Preece and Ryan Newman, at that track, that I’m able to watch on TV,” Rameau said. “The whole experience of Martinsville was great. The car was really good — I think it would have been really good on the long run. But just cut short on a mechanical issue none of us can control.”
“I can’t thank all of our crew, sponsors and supporters enough for everything they have done in the last week. We can’t wait for the next race.”
Up next for Sam Rameau and Rameau Family Motorsports is a trip to New Hampshire Motor Speedway on Saturday, April 17, for a 50-lap Tour-Type Modified race worth $5,000 to win. The race will air to a live audience on Speed51.TV via a pay-per-view.
