Riverhead Raceway To Speed Into Summer With Late Model 50-Lap Special June 26

Saturday night June 26th Riverhead Raceway will speed into summer with another exciting NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series program highlighted by the return of the Late Models who haven’t raced since early May. The Late Models will compete in their first leg of the Miller Lite Triple Crown Series going to post in a 50-lap event with the Buzz Chew Chevrolet NASCAR Modifieds competing in a 50-lap tilt as well.

Defending Late Model champion Jeremy McDermott of Riverhead will seek his second straight win to kick off the limited slate of events in 2021 as he seeks to tie Scott Kulesa for 5th on the all time win list with 23 victories. In the season opening 40-lapper rookie driver and defending Figure Eight champion Joe Warren Jr. of Ridge impressed with a runner up finish to McDermott and he will be a threat to win in the Jennifer Joann owned racer. With an opening in his Exit Realty Truck Series schedule Jerry Giordano Jr. of Freeport who finished third on opening night is also expected to compete. Kevin Metzger of Massapequa, Brandon Turbush of Manorville, Chris McGuire of Selden, Brian Doyle of Ronkonkoma, Ethen Brown of Floral Park and Ray Minieri of Bay Shore will all be on hand.

After a week off for the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour the Buzz Chew Chevrolet NASCAR Modifieds return with point leader  Chris Young of Calverton leading the troops back into action. Young has a slim 4-point bulge over former two time champion Kyle Soper of Manorville and just 8 over most recent winner John Baker of Brookhaven. Defending champion Tom Rogers Jr. of Riverhead is still seeking his first win of 2021 as is 2020 championship runner-up Dylan Slepian of Dix Hills. Also ready for victory are opening night winner John Beatty Jr. of Merrick, Justin Brown of Manorville who seeks a career first win as does Michael Rutkoski of Mattituck. Former three time champion Howie Brode of East Islip will be in pursuit of his 21st career win while CJ Lehmann of Lake Grove his fourth career triumph.

The famed Figure Eight stock cars will run their first race since May 22nd with former champion Scott Pedersen of Shirley winner of two out of the three races run to date this year leading the championship rankings. Tom Ferrara of Patchogue the only other winner this year along with Gary Fritz Jr. of Mastic Beach, impressive rookie Kim Hyde of Medford and Bryan Quilliam of Manorville ready to get back to work. Hyde’s freshman year is even more notable as she competes in a 6-Cylinder powered machine against all 8-Cylinders in the class.

The busy Eagle Auto Mall Crate Modifieds, Mini Stocks and a 8-Cylinder Gut & Go Enduro will complete the June 26th festivities. Qualifying is set for 6:00 pm with spectator gates opening at 4:00 pm. Opening ceremonies and feature racing will follow qualifying. Adults $30, kids 6-12 $10 with 5 & under free. Tickets sold at the track on race day only. All events are live streamed at Riverheadraceway.Tv on a PPV basis with coverage starting 15 minutes before qualifying.
