NASCAR Cup Series driver Ryan Preece will take advantage of a Saturday off this weekend to compete in the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Steel Palace 150 at Oswego Speedway on Saturday, June 12. The 2013 Whelen Modified Tour champion will make his fourth tour start of the season behind the wheel of the No. 6, and will look to score his first top-10 of the year.

Better yet, the Berlin, Connecticut, native will seek victory at Oswego’s tricky oval for the second time. Preece was victorious in tour competition at Oswego in 2017, leading the final 33 laps of the race after passing Matt Hirschman.

Although Preece is a full-time competitor for JTG Daugherty Racing in the Cup Series, he has not become a stranger to the grassroots modified community. Preece has continued to be a regular competitor in the Modified ranks — competing with the Whelen Modified Tour — and also running select Open Modified events across the Northeast region, and down south. Preece has already been victorious in the SMART Modified Tour this season at South Boston Speedway in Virginia and has run well in other events in New England.

Preece will be joined by over 20 tough competitors for a 150-lap contest at Oswego. Names like current points leader Patrick Emerling, two-time series champion and most recent winner Justin Bosnignore, Ron Silk, Woody Pitkat, Max McLaughlin, Timmy Solomito, Chase Dowling and more are expected.

Matt Hirschman — who is no stranger to Oswego’s victory lane — will also return to competition looking to score his fourth career tour win. Hirschman dominated the 2018 race at Oswego, leading 139 laps en route to victory. A full entry list for the race will be available early this week.

As part of a full night of racing at one of the country’s most historic tracks, the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour will co-headline the racing with the Oswego Supermodifieds. The pure speed of Supermodifieds, and Tour Modifieds, will rumble around one of the fastest tracks in the region.

NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour teams, as part of a one-day show, will load in for practice from 3-4 p.m., with Mayhew Tools pole qualifying set for 6 p.m. The drop of the green flag in the Steel Palace 150, the fifth race of the season, will be set for 7:30 p.m. Advance tickets are available for $40 per person in general admission through JDVProductions.com. Tickets will also be sold at the track, if still available. Pit pass sales will also be open to the public.

  1. YES!!!! YES!!!!! YES!!!!!!

  2. I saw a post on Facebook from Phil Moran poo pooing a lack a electronic scoring at Jennerstown. Coby is sending a car up to Oswego in part he says to support Vanada. Dowling is a full participant in providing the race set up input working with Moran to get the car the way he likes it and that will be fun to watch. Hirschman in any NWMT race makes it electric. Preece always the icing on the cake when he can return to one of the modified shows. In short the whole Dave Sapienza fit in my view may be a fan favorite but had no real support in the long run as far as teams go. He’s the one missing out and it’s too bad. It’s not to late to change your mind Mr. Sapienza. Only twenty cars but it will be a great field of experienced drivers to compete against.

  3. Love that sweatshirt.
