It took Todd Owen until the 12th race of the season to get his first SK Modified win of 2021 at Stafford Speedway last week.

Friday the Somers driver made sure there would not be another dry streak to follow that victory.

Owen used a late pass of Michael Gervais Jr. to win for the second consecutive week in the 40-lap SK Modified feature Friday at Stafford.

“Just an awesome car,” said Owen, the SK Modified division points leader. “What can I say man? Awesome power from RAD Auto Machine. …This Chassis Pro car, it’s running man.”

Gervais, of Southbury, was second and Doug Meservey of Chatham, Mass. third.

With six laps remaining Gervais defended a bottom lane look from Owen in turn three. But Owen kept challenging and with just under two laps remaining Owen found the lane to get by Gervais to take over the top spot.

Meserve’s third place was his first top-five finish of the season.

“I think I’m more excited about Doug Meservey finishing third,” Owen said. “… than I am about winning. That kid has done awesome job this year and I’m real proud to have him in one of our Chassis Pro cars.”

  1. Good For Todd, One Of The Last Drivers Who Builds His Own Cars!!

  2. Fast Eddie says

Reg, absolutely agree!! Score another victory for the old school racers! Saw last week’s race, would have been great to be there this week for the repeat!

  3. Oh man Gervais was so close to getting that long awaited win and giving us yet another first time winner this year but it was not meant to be. I did not think Owen would pull the trigger not at all. Lap after lap he did not press the issue and he’s not the type to try anything with high risk knowing the points situation. Plus he’s a gentlemen, knew Gervais wanted the win bad and would never risk wrecking him with an ill advised move. So in my mind it was a points race as gentleman Todd would certainly take the second. But no wait, is he actually trying to pass for the lead? Why yes his is, it was picture perfect and very dramatic all in all.
Stephen Kopcik in the cat bird seat before last weeks race leading the points with a fast machine and it all changed at the end of the feature. This week just another good car as Owen opens up a meaningful lead in the points race. And there Kopcik is in his fire suit, checking the tire pressures of Ryan Preece’s car in a night he’d indeed get a win just as a crew chief instead of a driver and a big win it was.

  4. Love watching Owen race. He races everyone clean, and he is tenacious as the next guy. Never quits. Certainly hoping he finally gets that Championship Trophy. He has earned it as the most consistent driver.
