More than 30 of the best Modified drivers in the Northeast region are heading to Monadnock Speedway this Saturday, August 14, for round four of the Tri Track Open Modified Series season. The high-banks of Monadnock produce some of the top Modified action of the year, and this time around, the championship battle is heating up with just three races to go.

Ron Silk enters the race leading the standings by five points over five-time series champion Matt Hirschman, driving for Haydt-Yannone Racing in their first year of Tri Track competition. Right from the first drop of the green flag, the team has been at the front of the pack — as Silk has three top-five finishes in the first three races and looks to seal his first series title in 2021.

Silk may be consistent enough to hold the points lead without a win at the halfway point of the season, but there is a hungry pack of drivers chasing him down. In the first three races, three different drivers have been to Victory lane. Sam Rameau won the opener at Monadnock on May 1 and will look to double-down this weekend, while Jon McKennedy was the big winner at Star Speedway on May 22. Last time out, Matt Hirschman collected a total of over $17,000 as the winner of the 10th annual SBM at Star. Through the first three events, 11 different drivers have finished inside the top-five, with over 54 attending race events.

Monadnock always produces a battle between some of the local NHSTRA Modified stars and Tri Track’s best. The local Modified division, which is Monadnock’s top NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series class, showcases some of the rising stars in New Hampshire. Names like Ben Byrne, Matthew Kimball and Brian Robie often lead laps in Tri Track competition at their home track and are expected to do the same on Saturday. All three have come close to Victory Lane at Monadnock with Tri Track before.

The race also marks the seventh round of the Call 811 Before You Dig Modified Challenge, worth $8,111 to the winner. The challenge combines the six Tri Track events with the four Stafford Motor Speedway Open Modified events, and drivers earn points for finishing in the top-10, with 10 going to the winner, nine to second, etc., through the top-10. After the first six races, Ronnie Williams, who drives the Casella No. 25 on the Tri Track circuit, leads by three points over Chase Dowling, with NASCAR Cup Series regular Ryan Preece third, five points back. Williams and Dowling are expected at Monadnock.

Following Saturday’s action at Monadnock, Tri Track has two events left on the 2021 schedule — both at Seekonk Speedway. The conclusion of the $10,000 to win, 100-lap Open Wheel Wednesday will take place on Wednesday, August 25, with just the feature race left to run. The finale of the season also returns to Seekonk on Saturday, October 23, with the Haunted Hundred, set for 100 laps.

Saturday’s schedule at Monadnock includes the pits opening at 12 p.m. for Tri Track teams and one practice session from 2:30-3:30 p.m. Qualifying heats will begin at 5:30 p.m., with the 100-lap, $6,000 to win race scheduled to take the green flag at 8:45 p.m. At the track, tickets are just $30 for adults, with seniors set at $25 and kids $5. Monadnock’s own NHSTRA Modifieds, Late Model Sportsman, Mini Stocks, Pure Stocks and Young Guns will also be in action.
