The marriage between KLM Motorsports and driver Timmy Solomito on the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour is over after seven events.

KLM Motorsports owner Mike Murphy confirmed to RaceDayCT Wednesday that Solomito will no longer be driving for the team.

“It was a race to race deal,” Murphy said. “It wasn’t a full-time gig ever for us. We’re just going in a different direction.”

Solomito replaced Rob Summers in the KLM Motorsports car earlier this season. He made his first start for the team on May 15 at Riverhead Raceway, where he finished 12th.

Solomito’s 10th place finish at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on July 17 was his only top-10 finish in seven starts for the team this year.

Solomito was not immediately available for comment Wednesday. He posted on Facebook Wednesday that his next race with the Whelen Modified Tour would be on Sept. 18 Riverhead with his family owned team.

Murphy said his team will skip Saturday’s Rumble at the Ridge 200 at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in Scarborough, Maine. He said the team will return to action on Sept. 4 for the Toyota Mod Classic 150 at Oswego (N.Y.) Speedway. Murphy said the team has not finalized who will be in the car for the event at Oswego. Sources close to the team indicated that Austin Beers could be a candidate to drive the car.
