STAFFORD – It looked like a night gone bad early for Frank L’Etoile Friday at Stafford Speedway in the Street Stocks.

A second lap spin while running second sent L’Etoile to the rear of the field on lap two.

But the drama was far from over for the Wethersfield driver.

L’Etoile clawed back through the 26-car field and then used a dramatic last lap pass to win the 20-lap Street Stock feature Friday at Stafford.

“I was just battling,” L’Etoile said. “What a roller coaster.”

It was the division leading fifth victory of the season for L’Etoile.

Bobby Stirk III of Naugatuck was second and Adrien Paradis III of Plainville third.

L’Etoile was up to third with three laps remaining with Paradis leading and Stirk in second. On lap 19 Stirk found a lane under Paradis off of turn two. The pair went side-by-side for the lead through turns three and four with L’Etoile stalking in third.

Stirk led off of turn four, but Paradis came back on the outside. Stirk and Paradis bounced off each other down the frontstretch with the white flag waving. With Stirk and Paradis still in a full contact battle for the lead, L’Etoile ducked under both through turn one and came off of turn two with the lead.

“They were having too much fun and they left a hole,” L’Etoile said.

Stirk had a career best second place finish.

“It was a lot of fun,” Stirk said. “Everybody was just running so hard. [L’Etoile] just squeezed by to my inside, there was nothing left that I could do.”

The rally proved huge in the standings for L’Etoile. He came into the night second in the division standings, 10 points behind Chris Meyer. Mechanical issues relegated Meyer to an 18th place finish. It left L’Etoile with a 24-point lead with three events remaining.
