THOMPSON – Three races, three days, three winners.

Jon Puleo hit the closing note to perfection in a three day celebration of Sunoco Modified division racing at the Sunoco World Series at Thompson Speedway Sunday.

Puleo drove away from Todd Owen over the final 10 laps to win the 30-lap Sunoco Modified feature Sunday at Thompson Speedway.

“Let me pinch myself to make sure it’s real,” Puleo said. “I felt like we had the best car all weekend, just some rookie mistakes on my part. I’m just trying to be the best I can be.”

Owen, of Somers, was second and Troy Talman of Oxford third.

Puleo was the third different winner over three Sunoco Modified features over World Series weekend. Keith Rocco won the Friday feature and Owen won Saturday’s feature for the division.

It was the first career Sunoco Modified win for Puleo, of Branford.

“It’s awesome,” Puleo said. “We’ve had this car all year like this, it was just a matter of my guys being patient and letting me have time to learn. What a car. My car owner Vinny Beedle gives me a great car. It all wouldn’t be possible without him. I just wish he was here. I just owe this all to my guys, Stephen Kopcik, my dad, all my crew guys.”

Despite a 15th place finish Rocco clinched his fifth consecutive Sunoco Modified championship at Thompson and ninth title in the division overall at the track.

Rocco ended up 15th in the 17-car field after wrecking with Ronnie Williams in a battle for second place following a lap 20 restart.

  1. I was surprised that Buckler and Falconi clearly described the incident as “Rocco put Williams into the wall”. It was certainly an eventful day for Keith.

  2. Shawn, in going through my records, I believe this is Keiths 9th championship at Thompson
