STAFFORD – The 2020 season at Stafford Speedway ended for Alexandra Fearn with a simultaneous high and low.

Fearn won the final race of the 2020 season in the Limited Late Model division at Stafford. She finished tied with Andrew Durand at the top of the division’s standings. Durand won the championship on the tiebreaker based on his seven wins vs. Fearn’s three.

In 2021 Fearn was on a mission to make sure there would be no disappointment when it came to the standings at the end of the season.

Friday that mission was accomplished for the East Longmeadow, Mass. driver.

Fearn finished sixth in the 20-lap Limited Late Model feature Friday to clinch the division’s 2021 championship.

“Last year was definitely a motivator to come back and show everyone that we’re contenders,” Fearn said. “We are here to win. I knew if we completed all the laps good things would come. I knew this year that I just stayed in my lane and completed all the laps and got good finishes this is what would happen. I’m just happy to be here and really thankful to be able to do this.”

Fearn – who is the track’s all-time winningest female driver with 22 victories between the Limited Late Model and Street Stock divisions –  became the second female champion in track history, joining Shelly Perry, who won the 2006 SK Light Modified title at Stafford.

“I know I’m not the first, and I don’t think I’ll be the last,” Fearn said.

Fearn closed out the season with six victories, 18 top-fives and 19 top-10’s in 20 starts. She finished with a 22 point advantage at the top of the standings over second place Jeremy Lavoie.

“I knew at the first race when we unloaded and we were fast that if we completed all the laps we would be at least close,” Fearn said.

Fearn adds her name to a Stafford Speedway record book that has plenty of family legacy included. Her cousin Tom Fearn has three Pro Stock championships and three Late Model titles and is the track’s all-time winningest Late Model driver. Tom Fearn has 74 wins at the track overall. Her brother Ryan Fearn has 15 wins between the Street Stock, Limited Late Model and Late Model divisions.

“I couldn’t be more proud of my kids,” team owner and Alexandra’s father Stuart Fearn said. “Alexandra did a great job this year. Ryan also showed he has what it takes [in the Late Model division]. I’m just so proud of Alexandra getting it done. It’s a shame we had a little mechanical failure today and didn’t have the performance tonight. But she brought it home.”

Lavoie, of Windsor Locks, won Friday’s feature for his second victory of the season. Lavoie was the 2018 and 2019 Limited Late Model division champion.

“Congratulations to Alexandra Fearn,” Lavoie said. “I know how big a feat that is and I know how good she’s feeling right now. Nobody can take that away.”

Mike Hopkins of Stafford was second in Friday’s feature and Devon Jencik of Canton third.

  1. CONGRATULATIONS to Ms Alexandra Fearn, and the whole Fearn Motorsports team for winning the 2021 Stafford Motor Speedway Limited Late Model Championship. A well deserved championship indeed. I predict many more. Alexandra, take time to cherish this moment, not many accomplish what you have done. Congrats again

  2. WELL DONE !!! Great Job !!!! Keep Winning….. Have Fun >>>>

  3. Congrats to a great Champion!!! Question, will there be THREE Fearns in Late Model next year. Is Alexandra moving up, and is Ryan coming back???

  4. Congrats to Alexandra and the whole Fearn team. One of the cleanest drivers in any division.Drives with her head as well as her foot.Impressive top 10 in her maiden voyage in the late models. Best of luck in 2022 whatever you wheel.

  5. Nice job Alexandra Fearn. She was the most consistent driver out there week in and week out. I was pleasantly surprised to see her in a late model last night. I was sure there is a rule against competing in both the late model and limited late model divisions on the same night. I guess Stafford must have waived that rule. .

  6. CSG,
I’m of the belief that the rule you’re referencing is typically always waived for the last event of the season.

  7. Could a late model be in Alexandra’s nearfuture? I think she’d be consistent top 10, and definitely a threat to win

  8. Gotta congratulate Stuart Fearn as well. His resources made this championship possible.

  9. Thanks Shawn. Pretty sure they would have had approval before running the late model after all the Limited championship was on the line. It would make sense for Stafford to allow drivers to run the late models the last night in order to get some experience and try it out. Hopefully Alexandria is moving up to the late models next year. Is Ryan suspension lifted for next season?

  10. CSG,
I don’t know that anything has changed with the suspension at this point.

  11. Shawn,

Refresh my memory was it an indefinite suspension Ryan got hit with? I think Chris Jones was suspended about 2 or 3 times and always ended up being reinstated. I think one or more of his suspensions were for actions detrimental to the sport involving a race official.

  12. CSG,
    Yes, indefinite suspension.

  13. Stuart A Fearn says

Thank you everyone for the kind words. Alexandra really earned it this year with hard work, focus, and dedication. Same speech Tom got many years ago, finish every lap and the championship will come. With a great car and crew working their asses off every week you will be in tech almost every week, the wins will come, and just finish and you will be fine. Don’t have to push too hard and cause your own problems.
Thanks to the crew, Amedeo, Bob, Dave Zboray and Dave Ferris, Grant, Whip, and also Matt, Soper, John, Tom and Ryan as well.
Great year and still determining what we are doing next year. As for the two division rule, in the lowest 3 divisions, SS, LLM, SKL you can only race one car a night except for the last race, then you can race 2 (maybe 3 IDK). LM and SK can race both every week, no limit.
