Edges Patrick Emerling and Caleb Heady for Top Spot

“Big Money” Matt Hirschman edged Patrick Emerling for the top spot in qualifying for the 19th Annual John Blewett III North-south Shootout in Memory of Charles Kepley. The duo, separated by only .160 of a second, will lead the field to the start of the 150 lapper.

Row two is made up of Tommy Baldwin Racing teammates, Caleb Heady and Jimmy “Showtime” Blewett. Blewett is the brother of John Blewett III.  Burt Myers rounds out the top five qualifiers

Hirschman will have all night to mull over the “Pole Challenge” posted by a fan of Modified racing. Hirschman can choose to move to the rear of the field for the start of the event and if he races his way to the win, he will claim the $2,000.00 bonus. If he does not win or declines the challenge, the $2,000.00 will be distributed to the final ten finishers in the race spread $200.00 per position.

Hirschman along with Caleb Heady, Jason Myers, Burt Myers, Jeremy Gerstner and Jonathan Brown, will be in the running for an additional $2,000.00 in “Lap 76” bonus cash posted by MSS Promoter, Darren Hackett. Those drivers became eligible for the bonus based on their finishes in one of the eight NSS qualifiers at tracks in the northeast and on the SMART Modified Tour. The 2k will go to the three eligible drivers highest in the running order in the NSS. $1,000.00 to the highest, $600.00 to second and $400.00 to third. The “lap 76” bonus honors the Blewett family #76 that John Blewett III drove for many years before his untimely passing.

Other racing on the schedule Saturday includes 50 laps for the 602 Modifieds, 74 laps for the Southern States Pro Lates, a 30 lapper for the US Legends Cars and the 50 lap “King of the Mini Stocks” feature.

Grandstands open at 10:00 AM. The cars will be lined up on the track at 12:30 for a “meet and greet” Pit Party with all the drivers. Racing is set for 1:30 PM.

If you cannot make it to the races in person, you can catch all the action at carawayspeedway.tv or at Pit Row TV for live coverage by the Pit Row TV crew.
