RaceDayCT Daily Poll: Them’s Fightin’ Words

Motorsports always has its angry moments which lead to entertaining quotes. Today we rank some of the angry quotes from local racers from the 2021 season. Check out the quotes and vote below.

Feb 8 – Jon McKennedy about Ryan Preece at New Smyrna Speedway

“I just got wrecked by an impatient driver, Ryan Preece. Big NASCAR Cup star. I’m not too sure what he’s thinking. Just drove over the back of me, spun me out in front of 40 cars and wrecked us. Bonehead move on his end.”

May 5 – Chase Dowling about Ronnie Williams at Stafford Speedway

“He just walks in a race track with sweatpants on and shows up and drives. … Kids that have money, that don’t have to physically work on their race cars or know what it’s like to work on their race cars don’t think the same driving behind the steering wheel. … You wreck someone’s race car, it takes them all week to fix it. They stay up countless hours taking time away from what they want to do in life. That kid can just go home, sleep and show up on Friday night with his sweatpants on and not have to worry about his hands getting dirty.”

June 18 – Bryan Narducci after winning in his first start after getting fired by SK Modified team owner Billy “Bear” Calicchio

“I like to think that I’m a decent driver. Over the last six or seven weeks [Billy “Bear” Calicchio] made me feel like I sucked. To go out there and win like this, that’s pretty special and says a lot.”

July 30 – Teddy Hodgdon IV about other SK Modified drivers at Stafford Speedway

“The car was really good once we got past the lapped traffic there. I don’t know, a bunch of Stevie Wonder’s are fucking driving here. I’m just very disappointed.”

Sept. 24 – Keith Rocco after being called out by Todd Owen for a late race pass at Stafford

“Are you not allowed to pass here anymore? Did somebody wreck, I didn’t see it? Huh? I don’t know. I guess we can’t use all the asphalt anymore? There was a hole and I took it and that was that. There was asphalt there. You go to a race track you race on the asphalt, that’s the way it is.”

Oct. 10 – Jon McKennedy about Keith Rocco at Thompson Speedway

“You’ve got guys like Rocco and a few others the last 30 laps spinning themselves out and putting tires on. That’s just fucking bullshit. Shame on them. He won, great job. He should have won, he’s on 30-lap tires. Spun himself out with 30 [laps] to go with what, eight cars on the lead lap? Bogus. Should have been a called penalty. He’s been racing here since he was a baby, never left the state of Connecticut. You don’t just spin out on your own.”

Comments

  1. how about THAT’S RACING ??

  2. Can we have an “All of the Above” voting option???

    😝 😝 😝 😝 😝

  3. One of the best polls yet. They were all pretty great.

  4. I’ll give this bit a R rating mainly for the potty mouth words but it could have been X rated if everything was included.
There’s Ryan Fearn’s indefinite suspension. Nothing was formally reported on the details but you can bet there must have been some choice words exchanged with track officials in addition to the actions that resulted in the penalty.
Then there’s the Narducci/Williams exchange that must have been something. Then Rocco sticks his nose in it, asks Williams to leave a pit that wasn’t his. Williams has some choice words for Rocco and then the heck with fighting words there’s actual fighting.
Then the simmering anger and next thing you know Rocco is driving Williams into the wall at Thompson. Words exchanged there between the Williams crew and Rocco as he walks by with no need to read lips to get the gist of what was being said.
And don’t forget Rocco vs Chistopher and Jordan vs Reen at the Speedbowl.
It’s been quite a year indeed for fighting words and that’s only in the higher divisions.
Why vote on fighting words when you have an actual fight to vote for.
Rocco/Williams win it in a……….wait for it…………knock out.

  5. How about Hamlin saying Bowman is a hack, after getting dumped by Bowman for the win. I guess it’s ok for Hamlin to dump people at will, but God forbid anyone dumps him. Made even better with Bowman having 4 wins this year as opposed to Hamlin’s 2.

  6. fighting words is what NASCAR just did with the announcement of a Whelen Modified Tour race down in Hampton VA at Langley Speedway the same weekend as Stafford’s Spring Sizzler!
Stafford was a weekly NASCAR series track for what? 45-50 years? they hosted 4 modified tour events most years of the tour existence. now, they decide to try open racing and NASCAR goes out of their way to host an event the same day as the 50th annual Sizzler! that is real fighting words!

  7. Looks like Mckennedy wins the cry baby award , he made the list twice

  8. By far IMO the best is Dowling on Ronnie Williams.

  9. Henry Lecomte says

Rocco had every right In that pit stall that was his car. However all speedways should have a UFC style cage we’re the drivers can go settle things. With the two drivers purse going to the winner can I get a LETS GET READY 2 RUMBLE.

  10. Henry Lecomte says

Doug that car Belongs to KEITH ROCCO So he had every right being in that pit.

  11. Ah yes the code of the pit stall. Or is it more a guideline?
I don’t know about lessee’s of race cars but I know as a lessor of apartments I have no right to go into an apartment anytime I like nor tell people in that apartment what to do or how to behave.
Everyone’s made their judgement on that particular fracas. Mine is Rocco was the most adult in the situation and acted more like some petulant young street stocker that get’s his inspiration from his genitals.

  12. “Sept.

That one gets a pin for sure.
The thing about empty asphalt is you have to put the car there but also be reasonably sure it will stay where you put it. In this case it didn’t and slid up into Owen. Rocco laughable since Christopher did the same thing to him at the Speedbowl the only difference being Owen had the skills to keep his car moving forward and Rocco didn’t.
There was only one proper answer here. A brief expression of regret for putting his car into Owen and affecting his points battle with a touch of humility. Keith Rocco seems incapable of ever showing any contrition for anything he does at least publicly.
Love that combative he can do no wrong attitude all you like. My view it just show no growth as a person at all nor confidence to admit not being perfect all the time.
