The reigning Indianapolis 500 champion will be returning to Stafford Motor Speedway in 2022 when the SRX Series comes back to the track on July 2.

Castroneves, who ran full-time with the SRX Series in 2021, was one of seven drivers with IndyCar ties named to run full-time or part-time with the series in 2022 according to the Associated Press.

Also returning from the 2021 SRX Series lineup are Paul Tracy, Marco Andretti, Tony Kanaan and Ernie Francis Jr.

New drivers for the SRX for 2022 with IndyCar ties include Ryan Hunter-Reay and Josef Newgarden.

“I see a huge value in signing IndyCar drivers, past and present,” SRX Series CEO Don Hawk told the Associated Press. “They’re a complement to SRX as they bring superstar talent and passions to fans of all kinds of racing.”

Tracy, Andrettie and Hunter-Reay are expected to run all six series events in 2022. Castroneves is expected in the lineup at Stafford along with events at South Boston (Va.) Speedway and Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway.

Kanann, Francis and Newgarden are not expected to run in the event at Stafford.
