STAFFORD – On Friday nights at Stafford Speedway Kevin Gambacorta squares off with a field full of stout competition in the Late Model division.
But the competition for Gambacorta doesn’t end when he leaves the track.
It also carries over to home in the competition for success with his 11-year old son Colton.
Kevin Gambacorta opened the 2022 season at Stafford with a wreck in the Late Model feature at the Spring Sizzler on April 24. Colton Gambacorta started his 2022 racing season Monday in the Wild Thing Kart Series at Stafford. And it was Colton scoring victory in the Tiger A feature that night.
The bragging rights belonged to Colton, who is in his second season in the Tiger A division in the Monday karting series at Stafford.
“Last year I won three races and he won two and I gave him crap all year,” Kevin Gambacorta said. “So he won and I had wrecked my car so he was letting me have it.”
Friday night at Stafford Kevin Gambacorta used a dominating performance to get himself squared up with his son.
Gambacorta took the lead from Andrew Molleur on lap eight and then checked out from the field to win the 30-lap Late Model feature Friday at Stafford.
“[Colton] was bugging me all week,” Kevin Gambacorta said. “I couldn’t let him have one up on me here.”
Kevin Gambacorta, of Ellington, won by 4.2 seconds over Molleur, of Shelton, who was second. Tom Fearn of East Longmeadow, Mass. was third.
“I was pretty far out there,” Kevin Gambacorta said. “You try to pull it back but it’s harder to drive slow. … This thing is stupid fast.”
