STAFFORD – David Arute used the last Friday night event of the 2021 season at Stafford Speedway to score his first career SK Modified feature win at the historic half-mile oval.

He used the first Friday night event of the season 2022 season to get his second feature win.

Arute deftly kept Bryan Narducci at bay over the final eight laps to win the 40-lap SK Modified feature Friday at Stafford.

Arute, of Tolland, also won the exhibition TC Shootout SK Modified event in 2021. Arute’s Chassis Pro teammate Todd Owen won the first SK Modified feature of the season on April 24 at the NAPA Spring Sizzler.

“This is awesome,” Arute said. “Last year was great to get our first win and we won the last race of the year. Now this year, Chassis Pro the first two wins of the season. Man this is awesome. I can’t thank my crew guys enough. All the fans for coming out, I hope you guys enjoyed the racing.”

Narducci, of Colchester, was second and Marcello Rufrano of North Haven third.

Arute took the lead from Brian Sullivan on lap six and never trailed again.

Narducci closed to within a car length of Arute multiple times over the final eight laps, but couldn’t mount a challenge for the top spot.

“I’ve got to thank Bryan,” Arute said. “He raced me hard all year last year and we’re getting a lot of respect for each other. I don’t know how close he was there, but man how awesome is this?”

It made for consecutive second place finishes to start the season for Narducci.

“Second week in a row finishing second, great start to the year,” Narducci said. “Just trying to finish races and we’re doing a good job at that.”

Rufrano bounced back from a rough opening week.

“Just a lot of hard work going into this week,” Rufrano said. “I was being a little bit too patient there. I was just biding my time. I felt like if we had a restart there we might have had something for the leaders. But congrats to David and Bryan. It was an awesome race.”
