Fresh off his second NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour win of the season at Monadnock Speedway last weekend, three-time champion Justin Bonsignore is ready for a return home this weekend. Bonsignore will begin the busy summer stretch at his home track, Riverhead Raceway, on Saturday, June 25, in the Buzz Chew 200.
In 22 career Whelen Modified Tour starts at Riverhead, Bonsignore has eight victories, with his most recent coming at the end of the 2019 season. Since then, the Holtsville, New York, native has three podium runs and one DNF, which came earlier in 2022, due to a mechanical issue.
Overall, Bonsignore leads all active drivers with eight wins at the quarter-mile. He’s finished inside the top-five in 18 of his starts and led over 1,000 laps at the New York oval.
“I’m excited to get back to Riverhead,” Bonsignore said. “The win at Monadnock was a good confidence booster for us. We’ve been struggling lately at Riverhead for the way we know we can run, especially at our home track. I’m hoping we can capitalize on some momentum and try to hang with Doug Coby, who’s been unbelievable there in the last few races, no matter what car he drives. The track has changed some over the last two years and we’re looking forward to trying to get back to Victory Lane.”
Saturday’s race day schedule includes one practice session from 3-4 p.m., followed by Mayhew Tools Dominator Pole Qualifying at 6 p.m. The green flag for the Buzz Chew 200 will drop at 8 p.m.
Tickets for the Buzz Chew 200 will be available at the track on race day for those who will be in the area. Tickets are $30 for adults, with kids ages 6-12 $10 per person and kids five and under free. The race will also air to a live audience on FloRacing.TV for those who will not be at the track.
