STAFFORD – While others were racing Friday night, Kevin Gambacorta was on a sailing trip.

Gambacorta, of Ellington, spent the night sailing away from the competition in the Late Model division.

Gambacorta checked out from the field after taking the lead and cruised easily to his third victory of the season in the 30-lap Late Model feature Friday at Stafford Speedway.

“We needed that tonight after a rough couple of weeks,” Gambacorta said. “We’ve got the best damn car here. I just don’t understand my luck sometimes, starting on the outside and getting caught up in stuff. But when we’re good we’re good. I’m just thankful I get this opportunity to drive this car.”

Adam Gray, of Belchertown, Mass., continued on a torrid pace with a second place finish. It was the seventh consecutive podium finish for Gray, who had four wins in June and has three consecutive second place finishes.

“The car has been really good.” Gray said. “No complaints with a third. Congrats to Kevin. … This Late Model division, I’ve said it time and time again, it’s a good field of cars and it’s whoever gets there first and anybody could win virtually on any given night.”

Darrell Keane of Enfield was third.

Gambacorta took the lead from Wayne Coury Jr. on lap six and never trailed again.
