STAFFORD – Alexandra Fearn decided Friday that after a month and a half of being nice, the time to be not so nice had arrived.
Fearn used an aggressive pass of Kevin Cormier to go to the lead on lap 11 and then held off Jeremy Lavoie coming to the checkered to win the 20-lap Limited Late Model feature Friday at Stafford.
It was the second win of the season for Fearn, the reigning division champion. The East Longmeadow, Mass. driver got her first win of the season on May 27.
“I just decided that I’m just going to drive the car and try and do the best I can,” Fearn said. “I think I’ve been a little too nice lately and conservative. It paid off.”
Lavoie, of Windsor Locks, was second and Damien Palarady of Willington third.
“This means a lot to us after we’ve been struggling for a month and a half,” Fearn said. “I can’t wait to come back next week. There’s so still a lot that we can do to the car to make it even better.”
Lavoie got a last gasp run off of turn four on the final lap, but Fearn won the drag race to the checkered flag.
“She was getting a little loose at the end and my car actually came around about halfway through the race,” Lavoie said. “The first 10 laps I didn’t think I had a car to drive up through the field but after that first caution the car got so much better. I just had so much drive off [the corners].”
Tyler Chapman of Ellington got his second win of the season in the 20-lap SK Light Modified feature.
Derek Debbis of Oakdale was second and Norm Sears of Andover third.
Bobby Stirk of Naugatuck got his third victory of the season in the 20-lap Street Stock feature.
Tyler Trott of East Hartford was second and Travis Downey of Barkhamstead third.
Great job! I should post more congratulations for Alexandra. I always enjoy watching her race.
