Double Purse Promises Wild Vermont Tire & Service Night At Thunder Road

(Press release from Thunder Road International Speedbowl)

The sights and sounds of Barre, Vermont’s Thunder Road return on Thursday, August 18th with Vermont Tire & Service Night. The Maplewood/Irving Oil Late Models, Lenny’s Shoe & Apparel Flying Tigers, rk Miles Street Stocks and Burnett Scrap Metals Road Warriors all return for the Double Purse courtesy of our streaming partners at FloRacing. Also on the schedule is the annual Kids Poster Contest with three divisions eligible, ages 0 to 5, ages 6 to 9 and ages 10-and-up with trophies for the top three in each division!

Graniteville’s Christopher Pelkey still holds a nine-point advantage over Montpelier’s Kyle Pembroke in the year-long battle for the Maplewood/Irving Oil Late Model title. Jumping up into third place in the standings is two-time King of the Road Scott Dragon. In his second season with the Todd Rueda-owned team, the Milton driver has turned heads this time around with one win and six top-5 finishes. Dragon has been quietly in the shadows all year long, be watching as he turns up the wick this Thursday with the $1,400, double purse in the back of his mind all night long!

The Chittenden County Clash continues in the Lenny’s Shoe & Apparel Flying Tigers with Milton’s Sam Caron holding a steadfast lead over Williston’s Justin Prescott and Hinesburg’s Derrick Calkins. With 39-points separating the top three, defending champion Mike Martin of Craftsbury Common is seemingly out of the money, 66-points out in fourth but with four events left on the schedule, anything can happen in the ultra-competitive division, especially as they chase down their $600 first-place, double purse payout.

Waterford’s Dean Switser Jr. holds a commanding 51-point lead over Williamstown’s Josh Lovely in the rk Miles Street Stocks. The top four-cylinder division at Thunder Road has impressed week in and week out showcasing an average of 30 cars at each event and the competition has been fierce. Following Lovely’s July three-win streak, three first-time 2022 winners have emerged and with the $400 prize courtesy of FloRacing’s double purse on Vermont Tire & Service night we expect this trend to continue!

There’s no rest for the wicked, nor is there any for the Burnett Scrap Metal Road Warriors. Coming off their 4th annual Road Warrior Challenge last week, the Warriors return for the $200 double purse winner’s check on Vermont Tire & Service Night. Can Taylor Sayers make it back-to-back wins after taking his first Thunder Road win less than a week ago or will another of the Burnett Scrap Metals cast of Road Warrior characters take the top spot? Find out Thursday!

Next up on the Thunder Road schedule is Vermont Tire & Service Night on Thursday, August 18th. Vermont Service & Tire Night is the second Double Purse event courtesy of our Streaming Partners at FloRacing with all four divisions in action including the Maplewood/Irving Oil Late Models, Lenny’s Shoe & Apparel Flying Tigers, rk Miles Street Stocks and Burnett Scrap Metals Road Warriors. The annual Kids Poster Contest is also on the docket so parents, grab your paper and pencils! Full schedule and race day information will soon be available online at www.thunderroadvt.com/schedule.
