Doug Coby Tops Practice For Whelen Mod Tour Phoenix Communications 150 At Thompson 

THOMPSON – Six-time was No. 1 on the speed charts Thursday afternoon at Thompson Speedway. 

Six-time NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour champion Doug Coby led the way in practice Thursday afternoon for the Phoenix Communications 150 at Thompson Speedway. 

Coby, of Milford, toured the .625-mile oval with a fast lap of 18.925 seconds. 

Coby has started six of 10 Whelen Modified Tour events this season and has wins at Riverhead (N.Y.) Raceway and Lee USA Speedway in Lee, N.H. driving for Tommy Baldwin Racing. Coby was making the first series start of the season for his personally owned team Thursday at Thompson. 

Coby has six career victories in 64 Whelen Modified Tour starts at Thompson dating back to 2002. His last victory at the track came in the Bud King of Beers 150 at Thompson on Aug. 14, 2019. 

Patrick Emerling of Orchard Park, N.Y. was second fastest in practice at 19.012 seconds. Jimmy Blewett of Howell, N.J. was third fastest at 19.083 seconds. 

Three-time series champion Justin Bonsignore of Holtsville, N.Y. was fourth fastest during the practice at 19.097 seconds. Bonsignore has 12 Whelen Modified Tour wins in 39 career starts at Thompson. 

Ronnie Williams (19.241 seconds) rounded out the top-five in practice. Twenty-four cars were on the track for practice. Donny Lia, Austin Beers, Craig Lutz, Jon McKennedy and Eric Goodale rounded out the top-10 in practice respectively.
