The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour returns to Thompson Speedway for the first time since October 2020 Wednesday with the running of the Phoenix Communications 150.
The 26-car entry list for Wednesday event includes seven former Whelen Modified Tour event winners at Thompson Speedway. That list includes Justin Bonsignore, Doug Coby, Ron Silk, Bobby Santos III, Craig Lutz, Timmy Solomito and Donny Lia.

Suitcase, cant blame you. I think Lia’s best days are behind him. I personally think Lia will do what he does best at Thompson. He will overdrive the hell out of it going into turn 3 & burn the rubber off early, or get into someone as he cant hold it down, and uses the old “8 tires are better than 4” strategy. Would have the 3 in my pick if it were Johnson, Preece, or anyone else not named Lia. Jmo.
I too think the 44 has lost its mojo since Mr Tinio’s passing. Probably not running enough. Gotta leave them off here as well.

Seriously, I’m the only one picking the 7ny to win at Thompson. Me thinkst Blewett’s previous dive bomb reputation is afoot here. You’re forgetting his success at New Smyrna a track not unlike Thompson where TBR coaching made a lot of difference.
You’ll rue the day my friends you succumbed to the siren call of Jimmy Blewett bias and hand the one beautiful winners point to the old man to covet for this one event.
Ever notice that the NWMT races consistently attract more entries in the Pick 6’s? Seems the old girl still brings the juice aye race fans?
I’m a big fan of the ❸. I too would prefer to see any other driver. Lia just isn’t a closer. But I’m still a big fan of the ❸. Since the v4 left, the ❸ is the last legacy car running. That is very important for the history of Modified racing. Jake Johnson in the ❸ appears to be a great combination.
Let’s hope the rain moves away.
While blewitt does seem reborn, I still need something recently convincing for his Thompson runs. Thats why I personally stayed away from him, but thats just me. I did mess up on my pick though. Forgot all about silk. Yeah, thats gonna hurt. Oh well, going with what I got….

Just so we’re clear for the future the previous mention of the “revised” rule for changes wasn’t a one time exception. It’s something we’ve had in affect for situations like this when a driver and/or car pops in or out. Or if you’ve have a few brews and just change your mind it’s all good.

Thompson moved this race to Friday according to what I saw! I guess they learned a bit about who runs on Friday’s and that they have an open race.
I still believe Stafford will have more tour type Modifieds. But who knows. Not a busy week at all! Very friendly to open wheel fans! And drivers! Very, very smart!
