With the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Phoenix Communications 150 being moved from Wednesday to Thursday due to weather, it left the Tinio Motosports team looking for a driver.

The team had planned to have former Whelen Modified Tour champion Bobby Santos III in their car at Thompson. With Santos committed to another event Thursday, the team was forced to make a quick change.

And they went from one former Whelen Modified Tour champion to another.

Team manager Lawney Tinio confirmed to RaceDayCT Wednesday afternoon that former Whelen Modified Tour champion Ryan Preece will step in to replace Santos with the Tinio Motorsports for Thursday at Thompson Speedway.

“We were actually thinking we weren’t going,” Tinio said. “We made a quick phone call and it became a possibility to get Ryan and we ended up being able to put all together. It’s definitely nice to be able to have another good driver take Bobby’s place. If we can’t have Bobby in the car it’s great to have Ryan.”

Preece has made two Whelen Modified Tour start this season. He finished 10th in the season opening event on Feb. 12 at New Smyrna (Fla.) Speedway driving for Boehler Racing Enterprises. He was sixth at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on July 16 driving for his family owned operation.

I am sure Ryan will bring set up Knowledge along for the RIDE…. Gee I am now wondering if I should change my PICK 6 ??? Well I don’t want Doug to WORK too Hard .. He may be putting in New Windows or on a LADDER so I will stay with my SAME PICK 6 …..

  2. Well, that changes things bit.

    Anybody gonna redo their picks?

I hope Preece gets up here early enough to get the car configured. Or calls in the set up. Who will be the crew chief?

  3. Grease Monkey says

I hope the crew chief is anyone besides the guy listed on the entry list!

  4. Not to worry, I’m a multi tasker. Head of maintenance and book keeping not a problem. House is painted, it’s on to sealing the driveways with revisions to the record setting participation level Pick 6 easily handled for those that think Preece is an upgrade from Santos. Admittedly this chatter is a surprise. But if anyone wants to stick in dagger in the back of Bobby’s reputation don’t blame the book keeper’s work load.
