Thompson Speedway Midweek Doubleheader Starts With Twisted Tea Tuesday

(Press Release from American-Canadian Tour)

Officials, teams and race fans across Southern New England have double the excitement on tap this week with the Thompson Speedway doubleheader planned for Tuesday, August 16th and Wednesday, August 17th. Twisted Tea Tuesday starts the midweek doubleheader off with a bang as an exciting prelude to the Wednesday return of the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour.

Twisted Tea Tuesday is jam-packed with special features and extra cash for the four divisions on tap. Perhaps most exciting for fans and teams alike is the headlining $3,000-to-Win, $400-to-Start 50-lap main event for the Sunoco Modifieds! Along with the top prize, second-place will take home $1,500 with the third-place finisher getting $1,200 – that’s $5,700 just for the podium finishers! The extra money, extra distance spectacular is expected to bring in a star-studded field. Led by two-time winner and current point leader Stephen Kopcik, defending track champion Keith Rocco and Connecticut legend Todd Owen, the stout field may just give way to a Troy Talman, Danny Cates or Jonathan Puleo to break out for the top prize.

Another exciting development for the midweek doubleheader is the all-new Double Down Showdown for the SK Lite Modifieds. The SK Lites will have a 30-lap, $750-to-win feature on Tuesday with another 30-lap, $750-to-win feature on Wednesday! Along with two days of extra distance and extra purse, the SK Lites will battle hard to stand high as the Double Down Showdown Champion with its own separate $1,000 point fund for those two events. The Double Down Showdown Champion will earn $500 with runner-up getting $300 and third-place in Showdown points going home with $200.

Joining the two Modified divisions will be the $1,500-to-Win Street Stock Open 50-lapper and $300-to-win Mini Stock 25! Both are expected to draw in competitors from across Southern New England for the extra distance, extra cash feature events. With the Open rules, Thompson Limited Sportsman drivers can join in the fun with several top prospects expected to pull midweek double duty! Not to be outdone, the Thompson Mini Stocks have been very competitive so far in 2022 with three different winners in three events. Currently led by Kevin Moore over defending champion Jared Roy and June victor Dave Trudeau with three events left in the season, it’s still anyone’s game.

Following all the on-track sparks and bangs, an epic Fireworks presentation will round out Twisted Tea Tuesday! Pit Gates will open at 3:00pm with Grandstands Open and Practice Starting at 5:00pm Tuesday. Post Time is set for 7:00pm with General Admission set at $25 for adults, $10 for kids 6-12 and kids 5 and under are free. 1. $30 on Racing America gets you two days of action excepting the NWMT race to be shown on FloRacing. That’s a lot of value for the money.
However it’s clear by now you can’t trust Racing America. They mislead folks on the Speedbowl race and are doing it now. Today is race day and they continue to show “The ground-pounding Modifieds of the Northeast head to Thompson Speedway for a 75-lap summer showdown.”
We’ll see what happens in the off season with streaming. Do tracks cut back, stand pat of do the deck chairs get moved around again. What would be nice to see is the ACT/PASS team and more of the MMTTS tracks make deals with FloRacing. Near as I can figure Racing America seems to be deprioritizing asphalt modifieds on their subscriber schedule making them PPV more frequently.

  2. LONG ILAND MOD MEDIUM says
