The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour’s penultimate event of the season takes place Sunday at Thompson Speedway with the running of the Phoenix Communications 150 as part of the Sunoco World Series weekend at thet track.

Three drivers are locked in a heated battle for the 2022 Driver’s Championship after 14 of 16 events. Jon McKennedy, looking for his first series titles, leads the standings. Justin Bonsignore, who has won the last two championships and is looking for his fourth title overall, is tied for second in the standings with 2011 series champion Ron Silk. Bonsignore and Silk sit three points behind McKennedy.

Of the championship hunting trio, Silk has the most recent victory, topping the field in the Sept. 3, 2020 event at Thompson. In 40 series starts at Thompson since 2010, Bonsignore has 12 victories and an average finish of 9.1, with top-five finishes in his last 11 starts at the track. In 56 series starts at Thompson since 2003, Silk has five victories and an average finish of 11.1 at the track with top-five finishes in six of his last eight starts there. In 20 series starts at Thompson since 2006 McKennedy has no victories and an average finish of 13.1, with top-four finishes in his last four starts at the track.
