THOMPSON – The drama of the Late Model championship at Thompson Speedway for 2022 was off the track and on the calculator on Friday at the Sunoco World Series.

Ryan Morgan of  North Franklin scored victory in the 30-lap Late Model feature and he needed every point awarded to him for the win.

Derek Gluchacki of North Darmtmouth, Mass. was second and Tom Carey III of Orange, Mass. third.

After scouring the division’s points for the season it was determined that Morgan and Gluchacki ended the season with the same amount of points after five events.

The first tiebreaker would have been wins, but both had two of those. The next tiebreaker was second place finishes, which they both had two of those.

So the championship ultimately came down to the best finish for one of them in the events that they didn’t finish first or second. And that turned out to be Morgan’s fifth place finish in the season opening Icebreaker in April versus Gluchacki’s eighth place finish in the August event at Thompson.

Mike Viens of Seekonk, Mass. won the 20-lap Open Mini Stock feature. Nick Anderson of Oxford, Mass. was second and Emerson Cayer of Contoocook, N.H. third.

Kris Watson of Kendeskeag, Me. was victorious in the 50-lap Open Street Stock feature. Chad Baxter of Pascoag, R.I. was second and Shane Gendron of Tyngsboro, Mass. third.
