(Press release from North-South Shootout)
Doug Coby, Jimmy “Showtime” Blewett and Caleb Heady fill the Seats of the 7ny
If the famous #7ny Modified did not take another green flag in 2022, Tommy Baldwin, Jr. has already had the season of a lifetime in Modified racing. The 2022 success started in February when the 7ny locked up the “World Series of Asphalt” Championship with Jimmy Blewett in the seat. The success continued with sealing the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour “Owners” Championship with three different drivers sharing seat time. Blewett, Doug Coby and Mike Christopher, Jr. took turns behind the wheel in that series. Caleb Heady locked up the SMART Modified Tour title at Motor Mile Speedway on October 22nd.
Doug Coby will return to the TBR line up for the 20th Annual, John Blewett III Memorial “North-South Shootout” presented by Puryear Tank Lines in Memory of Charles Kepley. The 2022 NSS marks Coby’s first trip to Caraway Speedway. The North-South Shootout has not been kind to Coby. A pair of top five finishes in four tries are the best efforts for the Milford, CT driver. All those starts came at Concord Speedway. That could change on November 5th.
Coby, who has six NASCAR Modified titles to his credit, joins Jimmy “Showtime” Blewett and SMART Modified Tour Champion, Caleb Heady as part of the three car TBR effort. The team must be considered as some of the favorites to unseat seven-time NSS winner, Matt Hirschman, in the November 5th event.
Activities for the NSS kick off on Wednesday, November 2nd with a “Hauler Parade” through the streets of Downtown Asheboro, NC, the hometown of the North-South Shootout at Caraway Speedway. Early parking for the event will also take place on Wednesday evening. Thursday, November 3rd, is open practice for all divisions competing in the NSS. Friday will see more practice and qualifying for the Modifieds and Late Models and Saturday, the 602 Mods qualify, and all four divisions will run their feature races with the green flag set to wave at 1:30 PM.
The NSS marks the biggest “double-header” event in the area. Race fans will have a chance to see the Tour-Type Modifieds and the 602 Mods in the open wheel division and the CARS Tour Late Model Stock Cars and Pro-Late Models will contest their “Championship Night” as well with all the big-name Late Model drivers in the area.
For more information on the North-South Shootout and other Caraway Speedway events, check the Caraway Speedway website at www.carawayspeedway.com or their Face Book page at Caraway Speedway. You can also call the speedway at 336-629-5803 and the staff will return your call. The North-South Shootout can be found at www.northsouthshootout.racing.
If I’m not mistaken, Coby came to Caraway to run one of the early season NWSMT races several years ago to shake down the team’s cars before the northern tour opener.
