Ryan Preece will make his first Cup Series points race for Stewart-Haas Racing from the 20th starting position in Sunday’s Daytona 500.

Preece finished started eighth and finished 10th in the second Bluegreen Vacations Duel event Thursday at Daytona International Speedway.

“It was all track position tonight,” Preece said. “It’s too hard to make moves and move forward out there, so it’s all about track position. We can’t give up track position on Sunday. We’ve got to make up a few spots, get that track position with our HaasTooling.com Ford Mustang, and keep it. When you get it, protect it. It’s as simple as that. That’s what it’s going to take when we go out there to race.”

Preece will be making his fourth Daytona 500 start Sunday. He started event three consecutive years from 2019-2021 for JTG Daugherty Racing. He finished sixth in his first Daytona 500 in 2019 and eighth in the 2021 edition.
