STAFFORD – When Tour Type Modifieds hit the track for the final time for the 2022 season at Stafford Speedway it was Ron Silk celebrating victory in the Monaco Modified Tri-Track Series Fall Final 80 at the historic half-mile.

Friday Silk was able to carry that momentum from 2022 right back to victory lane at Stafford.

Silk, of Norwalk, dominated on the way to victory in the second of two 40-lap NAPA Spring Sizzler Duel qualifying events Friday at Stafford.

Silk, who earned $3,500 for the qualifying race victory, will start second in the NAPA Spring Sizzler 100 Saturday alongside Matt Hirschman, who won the first duel.

“That’s a good place to start,” Silk said. “Certainly out of trouble for the beginning of it. We had a really good car since we unloaded here. Hopefully we can just take a little bit of what we learned tonight and make it a little bit better for tomorrow.”

Silk started on the pole Friday and led every lap on the way to victory.

Andrew Krause of Holmdel, N.J. was second and Stephen Kopcik of Newtown third.

“I’ve got to thank my guys for putting together an awesome car,” Krause said. “… We haven’t been here too much. We kind of kept throwing things at it all day and we finally stumbled onto something. Pretty pumped. My guys did an awesome job. We’ll be ready for tomorrow.”

The top-10 in the event qualified for Saturday’s 100-lap feature. That group including Doug Coby, who rallied from a lap 19 spin.

On a lap 19 restart Coby got by Craig Lutz for second place off of turn two. But in turn three contact between the two sent Coby spinning into the wall.

Coby picked his way back through the field and ended up sixth.
