STAFFORD – On April 15 Ryan Waterman won the Street Stock feature at the Northeast Classic at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

For Waterman, who also has Street Stock victories at Thompson Speedway and the New London-Waterford Speedbowl, the victory at NHMS, ranked in his mind as the biggest of his career.

That categorical notation though only lasted a few weeks.

Waterman, of Danielson, has competed sporadically in recent years at Stafford Speedway, and has come close to victory at the historic half-mile.

Friday he used Spring Sizzler weekend to finally cross Stafford off his list of career desires.

Waterman held off the charges of defending division champion Travis Hydar to win the 20-lap Street Stock feature Friday at Stafford.

“Finally got one at Stafford,” Waterman said. “Stafford is the greatest place to race in the country. It’s just as big here as it was to win at Loudon. The best place to race is Stafford. It’s huge.”

Hydar, of Woodbury, was second and Bert Ouellette of Ellington third.

“That kid is freaking hard to beat,” Waterman said of Hydar.

Said Hydar: “The car was pretty fast. … We were able to come through the field following Ryan. I fought him real hard. He ran a good race. There was nothing else I could do.”

Matt Clement of Wethersfield topped the field in the 20-lap Limited Late Model feature. Jeremy Lavoie of Windsor Locks was second and Rich Hammann of Tolland third.
