Mayhew Tools No. 7NY Set For Battle in 200-Lap NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Race Saturday Night

Last time out at Riverhead Raceway on the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour, the day didn’t go the way Doug Coby would have imagined. Coby started the race two laps down and never recovered after an issue post-qualifying forced the team to change parts on the car.

This Saturday night, Doug and the Tommy Baldwin Racing, Mayhew Tools No. 7NY team head back to New York looking to rebound and capitalize on the opportunity. Coby and Baldwin teamed together for the first time in May of 2022 and won their first race at Riverhead.

After not winning in his first 19 Riverhead starts, Coby scored his first win at the New York track in 2021. He would follow it up with a second straight a few months later, and add his third win last season. In his last 13 Riverhead races, the six-time Whelen Modified Tour champion has finished top-10 in all but three of them.

“We thought we had a car that could have competed with Justin (Bonsignore, winner) and Ron (Silk, second) when we were there last month,” Coby said. “Riverhead sprays down the track a bit differently it seems like every time we go there, and the track has been changing each time. We will have to adapt to that on Saturday. We definitely have an idea of what we need to do to make the car better and I think we will be ready to go for 200 laps.”

As Riverhead honors Mike Ewanitsko Saturday night in the 200-lap event, the series will practice from 3:15-4:15 p.m., followed by Mayhew Tools qualifying at 6 p.m. The race will begin at 8 p.m., live on FloRacing.TV.
