STAFFORD – The hottest driver in the SK Light Modified division in 2023 at Stafford kept the fire going in dramatic style Friday.

Brian Sullivan used a last lap pass of Bob Charland to score victory in the 20-lap SK Light Modified feature Friday at Stafford.

It was the second consecutive victory for the Tolland driver and third win in four events this year.

“I didn’t really have a good car early,” Sullivan said. “I thought we were average. Restarts helped us and the outside lane, I was licking my chops out there on the outside on the restarts. It seemed lot better for us tonight. … I didn’t think we had this one tonight. Three wins, so let’s keep this going.”

George Bessette Jr. of Danbury was second and Charland, of Stafford, third.

It was the eighth career SK Light Modified victory for Sullivan, the 2020 champion of the division.

Charland dominated out front for the most of the event. Sullivan got a run low off turn four coming to the white flag and then made the diving move into the lead into turn one on the final circuit.

“Bob had a good run there, I hate to steal one from him because he did a good job.” Sullivan said. “It was close. I was getting a good run on the exit [of the corners] and he moved down to crowd a little bit. But I kept getting a good run up off the turns.”

Said Charland: “We definitely showed some muscle tonight. The big thing is we made a recovery from … a bad start to the year. We didn’t need the last few cautions because I think we could have taken it home no problem. … It felt good to be able to be competitive.”
