STAFFORD – The all-time winningest SK Light Modified driver at Stafford Speedway grabbed himself a little more breathing room on the win list Friday.

Chris Matthews of Stafford started on the pole and led every lap to win the 20-lap SK Light Modified feature Friday at Stafford.

It was the 20th career SK Light Modified victory at Stafford for Matthews, which leads the division all-time. Matthews now leads second place Joey Ferrigno on the all-time win list by three victories.

“The thing was going real good,” Matthews said. “To get a shot up there at pole is obviously a big help. We made a lot of adjustments today and just kept digging with it. My guys did great. They’re always doing stuff and tweaking it.”

It was the first victory for Matthews since July 8, 2022.

Brian Sullivan of Tolland was second and Tyler Alkas of Berlin third.

Travis Hydar of Woodbury got his second win of the season in the 20-lap Street Stock feature.

“It feels really good,” Hydar said. “We’ve had some bad luck the past couple of weeks. To get a win tonight, it feels pretty good to get back on track. I was able to get through traffic pretty smooth and then after that it was just about staying up front. No looking in the mirror, just focused on what I was doing.”

Ryan Waterman of Danielson was second and Aaron Plemons of Uncasville third.

Waterman and Hydar have combined to win all six Street Stock events at Stafford this year. Waterman has four victories.

Kevin Cormier of Agawam, Mass. scored his second consecutive win and third win of 2023 in the 20-lap Limited Late Model feature.

“We had this car really setup for today, but it wasn’t easy,” Cormier said. “We had Matt [Clement] and [Jeremy] Lavoie on our butt the whole race and it was such a blast just fighting with these guys for the win. I think we proved that we can come through this field pretty well. Hopefully we can keep this momentum going and see where we end up.”

Clement, of Wethersfield, was second and Lavoie, of Windsor Locks, was third.
