44th Vermont Governor’s Cup And Port-a-Potty Grand Prix On Tap July 27 At Thunder Road

This Thursday brings back another jam-packed night of racing at the Nation’s Site of Excitement as the 44th Vermont Governor’s Cup presented by the Vermont Lottery is ready to challenge the Maplewood/Irving Oil Late Models for 150 laps of heart-pounding action with each driver looking to join the coveted list of champions! Not to be overshadowed, WDEV Radio Vermont and Calkin’s Portable Toilets Night will also feature the Lenny’s Shoe & Apparel Flying Tigers, rk Miles Street Stocks and Burnett Scrap Metals Road Warriors will also go all out in feature racing excitement along with the world-famous Port-a-Potty Grand Prix with a Golden Toilet Seat waiting patiently in victory lane!

Maplewood/Irving Late Model point leader Stephen Donahue is looking to capitalize on a strong running season. After capturing the Times Argus Midseason Championship three weeks ago, Donahue is looking to add another iconic win to his stats page and join father John Donahue as a Vermont Governor’s Cup champion. Defending King of the Road Christopher Pelkey has been knocking on the door all season long, showing consistency is key but needs all the cards to fall into his favor to nab his first Governor’s Cup victory. Former Vermont Lottery Governor’s Cup champions Nick Sweet, Cody Blake and Scott Dragon are also looking to tally up another 150-lap win and pad their championship chases.

Alongside the usual suspects, Officials can confirm former King of the Road track champions Derrick O’Donnell, Bobby Therrien and Jason Corliss will return for the Governor’s Cup on Thursday, as will former winner Brooks Clark. Car owner Robbie Crouch also confirmed that if repairs are made in time, Jean-Paul Cyr will also be in attendance.

Along with Donahue, point leaders Sam Caron and Cameron Powers will be competing in the world-renowned Port-a-Potty Grand Prix along with recent Burnett Scrap Metals Road Warriors first-time winner Tyler Wheatley representing the fan-favorite starter division. As is tradition, fans in the stands will get a say in who wins the Golden Plunger for best appearing port-a-let before the race begins with the winner receiving the iconic Golden Toilet Seat for their efforts!

Thunder Road returns to action next Thursday, July 27th for two of Central Vermont’s most popular events; the 44th Vermont Governor’s Cup presented by the Vermont Lottery and the annual WDEV/Calkins Portable Toilets Porta-Potty Grand Prix! Along with the Maplewood/Irving Oil Late Model Vermont Governor’s Cup 150, the Lenny’s Shoe & Apparel Flying Tigers, rk Miles Street Stocks and Burnett Scrap Metals Road Warriors join the annual fan-favorite night of thrills, spills and pure family fun! A special early Post Time of 6:30pm is in effect with adult general admission set at $20, kids 12-6 for $5 and children 5 and under free! The Family Four Pass is also available for $40.

A quick turn-around for teams and fans brings Thunder Road back to life on Sunday, July 30th for the delayed Preston’s Kia Independence Day Spectacular with Northstar Fireworks ready to supply the greatest fireworks display in Central Vermont this summer! Sunday Post Time is set for 7:00pm with adult general admission set at $15, kids 12-6 for $5 and children 5 and under free! The Family Four Pass is also available for $30.
