Management of the Camping World SRX Series announced Friday evening that driver Paul Tracy has been suspended by the series.

A release from the series read: “Superstar Racing Experience (SRX) has announced an immediate suspension of driver Paul Tracy in relation to yesterday’s on-track incident at Pulaski County Motorsports Park.”

With about 10 laps remaining in Thursday’s SRX Main Event at Pulaski County Motorsports Park, Tracy made contact with Josef Newgarden on the frontstretch, planting Newgarden into the outside wall. The wreck then collected Ken Schrader, putting Schrader violently into the inside wall.

After the event Schrader said: “I’m not running another race with [Paul Tracy]. I’m done.”

Schrader is in his first year running full-time with the series after serving as a test driver with the series the last two years. Tracy has run full-time with SRX since the series’ inception in 2021. Schrader and Tracy were involved in incidents together at the first and second races this season, both held at Stafford Speedway.

SRX did not announce any terms of the suspension or how Tracy’s spot on the full-time roster would be filled.

“We take issues regarding driver safety extremely seriously at SRX,” SRX  CEO Don Hawk said in a release. “This is not a decision we take lightly. It is our responsibility to ensure that we foster a competitive, and most importantly, a safe racing environment. I have been in contact with Paul directly and we appreciate his cooperation on this matter.”

  1. It happens so fast so who knows what extenuating circumstance there are Tracy says they got hooked together. However, taking the replay at face value it looks like an emotional, poorly executed, violent walling.
If it was intentional can’t imagine what Tracy was thinking. For one it was such a direct path to the wall Tracy must have known his car wouldn’t survive and so obvious that it couldn’t be chalked up to hard racing.
