THOMPSON – Alexander Pearl arrived at Thompson Speedway Wednesday winless on the 2023 season.

He left the track on a winning streak.

Pearl, of Salem, won the second 30-lap SK Light Modified feature of the night Wednesday to complete the sweep of both events on the night.

“Back to back, two wins in a row,” Pearl said. “Get the broom out.”

Tyler Chapman of Ellington recovered from a hard wreck in the first feature to finish second.

“It was definitely a good race,” Chapman said. “Missed some wrecks. I’m happy with second place after the first race didn’t go so well.”

Said Pearl: “I’m glad [Chapman] was able to use their backup car and we could put on a good show.”

Nick Hovey of Chaplin was third.

Following a three car wreck on the initial attempt to start the event, Hovey checked out from second place Isaiah Newcomb early before caution flew on lap four.

Caution flew again on lap 12 when Rob Janovic Jr. wrecked in turn two with Hovey leading Newcomb and Pearl running third.

On the restart Hovey had to fend off challenges from both Newcomb and Pearl, the race singling out after a lap of drama.

On lap 16 Pearl got by Newcomb to take over second off of turn two.

On lap 18 Pearl got under Hovey off turn two and took the lead off turn two. Newcomb fought back on the next lap, with Chapman jumping into the fray up front. Chapman got by Hovey to take over second on lap 20.

On the final lap Chapman closed on Pearl’s bumper in turn three, but Pearl was able to power off of turn four for the victory.
