THOMPSON – Austin Beers rolled into Thompson Speedway Wednesday carrying the momentum of his second NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour victory on Aug. 5 at Lancaster Motorplex in Lancaster, N.Y.

That Lancaster momentum carried Beers to the top speed in practice and then the Northampton, Pa. driver backed up that practice effort by winning the pole for the Thompson 150 presented by FloSports.com.

Beers toured the .625-mile Thompson Speedway oval with a fast lap of 19.158 seconds.

It was the fourth pole of the season for Beers, who also topped qualifying at Richmond (Va.) Raceway (March 31), Riverhead (N.Y) Raceway (June 24) and Wall (N.J.) Stadium (July 8). Beers got his first series victory at Richmond.

Six-time series champion Doug Coby of Milford will start second after putting up a fast lap of 19.171 seconds in qualifying. Series points leader Ron Silk of Norwalk was third fastest in practice at 19.279 seconds.

Anthony Sesely (19.328 seconds) and Patrick Emerling (19.330) rounded out the top-five in qualifying.

Justin Bonsignore, Eric Goodale, Bobby Santos III, Matt Swanson and Craig Lutz rounded out the top-10 in qualifying respectively.  Twenty-three cars took time in qualifying for the event.
