A three year mission to find victory lane in an SK Light Modified for Meghan Fuller came to fruition Friday at Stafford Speedway.

Fuller went by Tyler Alkas for the lead on lap 18 and went on to victory in the 20-lap SK Light Modified feature Friday at Stafford.

Fuller, who has been running the division since 2021, was making her 48th career start in the division Friday.

“It all means so much to me,” Fuller said. “We’ve been chasing this for three years now. I can’t thank my dad and Keith Rocco enough for all the hard work that they’ve put in these past three years. … It feels surreal to be here right now. … I just can’t even think right now.”

Fuller became the third female driver to win in the division’s history. Shelly Perry got her lone victory in an SK Light Modified at Stafford in June 2006. Heather DesRochers (now Heather Preece) got two wins in the division in 2009.

Fuller was a 10-time winner in Stafford’s Street Stock division before making the jump to the SK Light Modified division in 2021. Fuller is the daughter of 1993 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour champion Rick Fuller.

Alexander Pearl of Salem was second and George Bessette Jr. of Danbury third.

“We had a really good car on the long run,” Pearl said. “I think a maybe couple more laps we could have had something for [Fuller]. She ran a great race and I’m really happy for her.”

The division had a hard time getting started on the night. At the first attempt to start the race a wreck at the back of the field brought out the caution. On the second attempt at a restart a spinning car on the backstretch led to a 13-car wreck in turn three.

Alkas had checked out from the field by lap 11 when Meghan Fuller went by Chris Matthew for second. Meghan Fuller was able to claw to the bumper of Alkas by 17 before making the move for the win on the next lap.

Excellent job!! She drove such a good race! She put that car in all the right spots at all the right times! More wins / podiums are coming for this team.
Her dad did very well racing as many know, however her grandfather Jim McCallum was a dynamite Pro Stock driver. McCallum could really race a car.. She’s got it in her genes, watch out!

  2. 9 laps to go Fuller had a pack of heavy hitters in back of her with no chance of keeping her spot let alone getting to the front. Or not. That was very impressive a purely earned win. Both she and Pearl were fast at exactly the right time at the end. Nervous time with Bessette behind her at one point thinking about their old Street Stock days but reason and speed prevailed.
I don’t think Fuller is a natural at all like her family tree suggests. She’s had the best equipment, KRR prepared cars and ground away at it until it all came together and we just witnessed it. That’s more impressive in my view then a natural getting a win their first year in the division is it not?

Damn, wish i was there to see it! Been rooting for her since her street stock days. Very clean racer, but too many times got caught up in someone else’s mess. Way overdue and very well deserved!

I haven’t seen the crowd cheering that much for someone coming to the checkers in a long, long, long time. A great last few laps.
I hope the media crew is translating that excitement to the Flo audience. Stafford COULD be the best thing on there with a little work.

Congratulations , Megan and Team , It was a grind in the open wheel cars, But She kept Her composure and stayed Strong …!! Me and the Bride were cheering her on like crazy to protect the bottom and secure the WIN… In races past She couldn’t hold the bottom once out front .. They got under Her and pushed her up outside and the train came by… Glad they got the Car handling so she could have speed , but also staying power on the low groove … Great job by all involved… Fuller / McCallum bloodlines is surely paying dividends … Don’t be surprised to see more Wins… They seem to come easier after the stress of getting to Victory Lane the first time is past …Great Job Meghan ! !!!! we have been your fans since Thompson LTD Sportsman days …She runs Strong on the HIGH BANKS … I hope to see her at Thompson …Got a feeling it will be JAM PACKED with HUNGRY FANS wanting a DOSE of THOMPSON TOUR MODS … SPEED .. FURY.. Two lanes to make it HAPPEN !!! can’t wait…..

  6. Congratulations!!!! 👍👍👍👍
