After two Saturday night showdowns in a row for the American-Canadian Tour title chasers, their three-in-a-row stretch comes to an end this Sunday afternoon, September 3rd for the 45th running of the Labor Day Classic 200 presented by New England Federal Credit Union. The ACT Tour returns home to Thunder Road International Speedbowl for the fan-favorite event just as the title chase begins to come down to the wire with the point standings tight as a drum.
Following his first career American-Canadian Tour win at Maine’s Oxford Plains Speedway last Saturday Gabe Brown has come within five points of D.J. Shaw’s title defense as the Tour moves headlong into the final three events of the 2023 season. Not only will Shaw continue to defend his 2022 ACT Tour championship, he’ll also be defending a well-remembered victory in last year’s44th edition of the Labor Day Classic where he narrowly edged Shawn Swallow to have his name etched alongside father Dale Shaw on the granite monument at the venerable Speedbowl.
As is the case with any American-Canadian Tour event hosted at the Nation’s Site of Excitement, the touring stars face their toughest challengers of the season. The Maplewood/Irving Oil Late Models that call Thunder Road home every Thursday night prove again and again to be the toughest competition of the season, and who needs anymore proof than the slim 16-point margin that separates the top-seven drivers in weekly competition who are battling for the King of the Road honors over the next several weeks.
Alongside Touring stars like Shaw, Brown, Jimmy Renfrew Jr., Derek Gluchacki and top rookie Andrew Molleur, fellow rookiecandidates Tanner Woodard and Bryan Wall Jr. would love nothing more than to capitalize using their former weekly experience while Erick Sands and Jonathan Bouvrette look to make up some ground in the top-10. Already, defending King of the Road Christopher Pelkey has thrown his hat in the ring alongside leading Thunder Road rookie Kaiden Fisher, Brooks Clark, Bobby Therrien and more looking to add their names to the Thunder Road history books!
The American-Canadian Tour concludes a three-in-a-row stretch next Sunday at the Home of the American-Canadian Tour, Barre, Vermont’s Thunder Road International Speedbowl. The 45th Labor Day Classic 200 presented by New England Federal Credit Union on Sunday, September 3rd sets the ACT Tour powerhouses against the tried and true Maplewood/Irving Oil Late Model hot-shoes in a fight to the finish and join a cast of legends upon the Granite Monuments at the iconic institution. The full card of racing will also include the Lenny’s Shoe & Apparel Flying Tigers, rk Miles Street Stocks, Burnett Scrap Metals Road Warriors and a visit from the Mighty Mini Stock Tour. Post Time is set for 1:00pm Sunday afternoon with adult general admission on sale for $25, kids 12-6 for $10 and children 5 and under free!
