THOMPSON – When it comes to big events at Thompson Speedway over the last two decades it almost seems unnatural to have a weekend without Keith Rocco standing in victory lane.

Rocco kicked off the 2023 season at Thompson on April 7 by winning the first Sunoco Modified feature of the season. Sunday he closed the book on the Thompson season back in victory lane once again.

Rocco topped the field in the 30-lap Sunoco Modified feature Sunday at the Sunoco World Series.

Rocco, of Wallingford, went by Troy Talman for the lead on lap 15 and never trailed again on the way to victory.

“[Sunoco Modiifed races are] always one of the best shows here if you ask me.” Rocco said. “Troy is always great to race with. Very respectful. It was a good battle between him and I. … Man I love this place.”

Talman, of Oxford, Mass., held on to finish second and clinched the 2023 Sunoco Modified division championship at Thompson.

“Thank you so much to [Cris Michaud and Tom Mayberry] for keeping Thompson Speedway alive,” Talman said. “They’re doing it next year, so I can’t wait for that.”

Todd Owen of Somers was third.
