New Smyrna Beach Area Visitors Bureau 200 Set For Saturday in Florida

Three-time NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour champion Justin Bonsignore and his Ken Massa Motorsports team are ready for another season.

This Saturday, February 10, Bonsignore will sit behind the wheel of the No. 51 Phoenix Communications Inc. Modified in the 200-lap season opener for the Whelen Modified Tour at New Smyrna Speedway. Bonsignore opened 2023 with a second-place finish at New Smyrna and also finished second in the championship standings after a grueling 18-race schedule. The season included five wins and 15 top-five finishes.

For 2024, the Whelen Modified Tour has a 16-race schedule planned, beginning in the sunshine state.

“Always a pleasure to go down to Florida to kick-off the year,” Bonsignore said. “It’s important to get the season off on the right foot on the Whelen Modified Tour with our Phoenix Communications team. New Smyrna is a fast track and requires you to be up on the wheel right from lap one. We hope everyone can make it down there to see us race in person, or watch the season opener live on FloRacing. It’s going to be a great show.”

The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour opener at New Smyrna includes two practice sessions. Bonsignore will be on the track from 1-1:45 p.m., followed by 2:45-3:30 p.m. Qualifying is set for 5:30 p.m., while the green flag for 200 laps is slated for 7:30 p.m.

  1. Just Saying says

Sure is ready. All he has to do is bring his helmet not like he does anything else like get his hands dirty.

  2. Boy are the days of Ryan Preece bringing a car to the track he and Paquette worked on with some experimental tweets gone. He posted a video of what they’re bringing to New Smyrna and it looks magnificent. One race last year he won, looks like he’s fixin to big time the field once again with a car out of a CUP shop with the best of everything. New Smyrna not his idea track. He loves going low, burning up the tires and fading while Hirschman is finding the friendliest favored line to minimize tire wear. Thing is that ride may be so good he won’t have many occasions to pass anybody for position. Move over J. Bonsignor there’s a new leader in the deep pocket category it looks at least for the opener.
What’s Emerling up to in that 1 car and Newman in the 114? Newman getting no buzz in our Pick 6, Emerling picked to win by a guy that usually has first hand information.
So who’s the dark horse favorite, I’d guess the 3 would be a safe bet. Thing is Sesely has this knack for showing up near in the top 5 and 10 fairly often. Not heralded, just consistently fast when it counts.
