When it comes to the community that is Modified racing, the moniker “Money” has been stuck on Matt Hirschman for quite some time for his habit of scoring victories in big paying events.

When it comes to Stafford Speedway though, the real money man over the last two years has been Ron Silk.

On Sunday at Stafford Speedway Silk goes looking to start a special streak at Stafford.

The Norwalk Modified veteran will be looking for his second consecutive victory in the NAPA Spring Sizzler 100 at Stafford Speedway.

For Silk, major events at Stafford at the beginning of or ending of the season have been showcases recently.

In 2022 Silk finished third in the NAPA Spring Sizzler and won the Monaco Modified Tri-Track Series NAPA Fall Final at Stafford. In 2023 Silk won the Sizzler and finished second in the Monaco Modified Tri-Track Series Fall Final.

Between the last two Spring Sizzler’s and Fall Final’s at Stafford, Silk and his Haydt-Yannone Racing team have collected just under $64,000 in prize money, with about $50,000 of that coming from his two victories during that span.

Between the winner’s purse, the payout for the qualifying event and lap money, Silk’s team took home over $35,000 for the 2023 Spring Sizzler win.

Silk goes looking to cash in once again Sunday, leading an entry list of 35 drivers into the “Greatest Race In The History of Spring.”

Silk is one of four former Spring Sizzler winners on the entry list. Other former Spring Sizzler winners include Doug Coby (2006, 2012, 2016, 2019), Woody Pitkat (2015) and Hirschman (2022).
