It’s the time honored racing cliche, sometimes it’s better to be lucky than good. And Ryan Waterman was gladly living that cliche Sunday at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
When race leader Charlie Baldwin’s car broke with just over two laps remaining, a distant second place running Waterman was the beneficiary and he went on to win the 25-lap Street Stock feature at the Northeast Classic at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
It was the second consecutive year that the Danielson driver has won the event at the Northeast Classic.
“I didn’t earn this one but I’ll take it,” Waterman said.
Jimmy Renfrew Jr. of Candia, N.H. was second and Shane Gendron of Chelmsford, Mass. was third.
The king of New Hampshire Motor Speedway was back in his throne once again Sunday in Loudon.
Eddie MacDonald won the 50-lap Pro All-Stars Series feature at the Northeast Classic.
“These guys just gave me an awesome car.” MacDonald said. “I wasn’t sure about it earlier in the day or in practice yesterday, [crew chief Rollie LaChance] and the guys just did an awesome job.”
It was the second consecutive victory in the PASS event at the Northeast Classic for MacDonald and the fourth PASS win in Loudon for the Rowley, Mass. driver.
It was the 13th victory overall for MacDonald at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. He also has wins with the NASCAR ARCA East, America-Canadian Tour and Granite State Pro Stock Series at the 1.058-mile oval.
DJ Shaw of Center Conway, N.H. was second.
“I think we had the second best car today and that’s where we finished,” Shaw said. “No shame in that. It’s so much better that we’ve ever done here.”
Ben Rowe of Turner, Me. was third (Editor’s note: Rowe was later disqualified for an undiscolosed reason, moving Johnny Clark of Hallowell, Me. third).
Jesse Switser of West Burke, Vt. Held on through multiple late restarts to win the 50-lap American-Canadian Tour season opener at the Northeast Classic at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
“We were really good all weekend,” Switser said. “What a way to start the year. … We put everything into this racing deal and it feels really good to start the season out this way.”
Derek Gluchacki of West Dartmouth, Mass. was second.
“Can’t complain,” Gluchacki said. “Solid day. I had a really good car there. Congrats to those guys.”
Alexendre Tardif of Notre Dame de Pins, Quebec was third.
