THOMPSON – With the Late Model field preparing for a lap 23 restart, third place running Nick Johnson wasn’t planning any sort of victory speeches for the night.

That all changed just after the race went green.

Johnson, of Rehoboth, Mass., proved the beneficiary of wreck between the first and second place cars on the late restart and then held on to win the 25-lap Late Model feature Thursday at Thompson Speedway.

“Those last couple of laps before the wreck, I didn’t really envision being [in victory lane], Johnson said. “We kind of used up the car pretty hard trying to make up that ground [getting to third]. When I saw that caution come out and it was basically three to go with me in third place, it was like ‘Alright, we might have a chance’. Just made it happen. There was a lot of luck there too.”

Ryan Morgan of North Franklin was second and Brian Tagg of Oxford, Mass. third.

It was on a lap 23 restart when race leader Ryan Lineham and second place Matt Lowinski-Loh wrecked together in turn two. The crash handed the lead to Johnson.

Tyler Chapman of Ellington won the 25-lap SK Light Modified feature. Nickolas Hovey of Chaplin was second and Daltin McCarthy of Oxford, Mass. third.

Ryan Waterman of Danielson topped the 20-lap Street Stock feature. Larry Barnett of Moosup was second and Jason Chicolas of Sutton, Mass. third.

Jared Roy of Sterling topped the 15-lap Mini Stock feature. Ryan Pomposelli of Smithfield, R.I. was second and Kevin Moore of Moosup third.
