(Press Release from American-Canadian Tour)

Once a weekly family tradition in the quiet corner of Connecticut, Thursday Night Thunder returns to Thompson Speedway for the first of three dates in 2024 this Thursday, June 13 with the Nutmeg State 50 presented by Twisted Tea! Along with continued track championship action for the Sunoco 604 Modifieds, Late Models, AZ Roofing SK Light Modifieds, Street Stocks and Mini Stocks, Thursday night is headlined by the $5,000-to-win Nutmeg State 50 for the Outlaw Open Modifieds presented by Twisted Tea!

Some of the top Open Modified talent is set to join the 50 lap Nutmeg State feature on Thursday with all eyes on the $5,000 grand prize waiting under the checkered flag. Jon McKennedy and Ronnie Williams will be looking for continued strong runs on the Thompson highbanks with fellow stars Matt Swanson, Chris Pasteyak, RJ Marcott, Anthony Bello and more expected to chase the Twisted Tea top prize on Thursday!

In the Thompson track championship chase, the 2024 season is finally ready to restart after weeks of preparation following the Icebreaker. Jon Puleo is standing tall among the Sunoco 604 Modifieds, winning the debut events for the division on Icebreaker Sunday. Ryan Morgan leads the Late Models with defending champion Nick Johnson and Kulwicki Driver Development Program (KDDP) finalist Derek Gluchacki close behind in a talented and competitive field for the 2024 season.

The AZ Roofing SK Lights are currently led by Tyler Chapman, as the Ellington-native looks to best his third-place tally in last season’s standings. Youngster Nick Hovey and longtime pilot John O’Sullivan are both tied for second just nine-points back and both will look to overtake Chapman on Thursday Night.

Al Stone III leads the fan-favorite Street Stock division standings followed close behind by 2023 championship runner-up Ryan Waterman and Aaron Plemons. Waterman, Plemons, Corey Fanning and ‘Leadfoot’ Larry Barnett are certain to dive in for the Memorial Day win and hunt for the Eden Rafferty bonuses!

Defending Mini Stock champion Jared Roy dominated the Icebreaker win after a heartbreaker for 2022 champ Kevin Moore saw him lose considerable power in the closing laps. Moore is among those looking to bounce back and find Thompson victory lane once again!

Comments

  1. Thanks for posting this. I didn’t realize Thompson was running this week.

  2. Marshall says

Stafford looks like it’s gonna be washed out this week, so maybe some teams will take the opportunity to race at Thompson? I dunno, just trying to make lemonade out of being rained out of Stafford 3 times already this year.

  3. Hillary 2024 says

No knock on raceday but if you didn’t know Thompson was racing this week, then there are issues.

  4. According to McKennedy’s facebook and website he’s skipping this race. Bummer I hope there is a decent car count. I purchased Race Monitor for the first time so hopefully while I’m finishing up work the practice results will show and I can see who’s entered. Just wish entry lists were always released to the public. Rain or not being forecasted for Stafford this Friday it being canceled last week probably killed the car count for Thompson’s open mods.

  5. Thompson runs some weekends, Runs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays periodically throughout the season. There doesnt seem to be any consistency like every other week or every 3rd week or the first week of a month or any rhyme or reason as to when they race. I am not sure how a casual fan could keep track. I know they run 1st early April and early in October aside from the bookend traditional shows I need some helpful reminders on the middle portion of their schedule. I was on racing america last weekend looked at the upcoming schedule and didnt see thompson listed. Did they stop streaming their events.
