STAFFORD – On Friday at Stafford Speedway Tyler Chapman won his ninth feature of the season and in the process clinched his first championship in the division with two events remaining to be run.

On Saturday, with the championship clinched, the Ellington driver continued to add accolades to his historic season.

Chapman topped the field in the 40-lap King of Crates SK Light Modified feature.

It was the 22nd career SK Light Modified feature win at Stafford for Chapman, tying him with Chris Matthews at the top of the division’s all-time win list.

“Since day one of the first SK Light race this year we were hunting that lead,” Chapman said. “I know we’re not ahead of him, but we’re definitely tied and we’ve got one more race left. We’re feeling positive after this three-race win streak.”

Chapman also tied the record for SK Light Modified points event wins in one season at 10, matching Tommy Barrett Jr. who had 10 wins in 2010. Chapman also won a non-points event this season.

The division runs its final event of the season at NAPA Championship night on Oct. 4

Nickolas Hovey of Chaplin was second and Alexander Pearl of Salem third.

  3. What’s the record for the number of wins in a season in the SKL division at Stafford?

  4. Earl,
Chapman matched it yesterday with 10 points event wins, matching Tommy Barrett Jr. who had 10 wins in 2010.

  5. Thanks Shawn.

Records are made to be broken, maybe he can do that next Friday night.
