And so begins the mission to ten.
Matt Hirschman extended his own record in winning the 74th Annual Lucas Oil Race of Champions 250 Sunday at Lake Erie Speedway.
“This one the crew was better than the driver and the car,” Hirschman said. “But the car was right when it needed to be. There were times it wasn’t and there were certainly cars that were better than us. It was good when it needed to be but I think the crew was better than the driver and the car.”
It was Hirschman’s record ninth victory in the event. Hirschman won the event in 2012 and 2013 and then rattled off six consecutive wins in the race from 2015-2020.
“Now that we’ve got nine, 10 would be a nice round number to get to,” Hirschman said.
Hirschman’s father Tony also won the event four times (1989, 1998, 2008, 2010).
“I appreciate the Race of Champions [Modified Series] for continuing this tradition,” Hirschman said.
Luke Baldwin was second Sunday and Austin Beers third.
